The funeral service, which was held on Sunday, September 28th at his home. was one of the larg- er: even held in this part of the cuuiiiigv. The numerous floral trib- utes and the large number of friends who came to pay solemn tribute to him, and to offer sym- piitlrv to the sorrcwing loved ones, reveal the place he had made in the hearts of those who knew him. The service was conducted by his minister, Rev. John F. Mac- Kay of Cherry Valley United Church, who brought It message or sympathy and hope from the lzlst Psalm. The chair, with Mrs. W. J. Mutch as pianist, sang "Peace, Perfect Peace" and "The Lord's My Shepherd". A duet. The following account of the vis- it to Rochester, N. Y., of Sister Mary Henry of the Community of the Sisters of St. Martha, Char- lotietpwn, is reprinted from the Courier Journal . official newspaper of the Rochwter Diocese. "A visiting Canadian nun has been given a royal reception here, even though Rochesterlans are un- accustomed to members of religious communities doing social work. "Sister Mary uenry, a member or the community of the Sisters of St. Martha, arrived in Roch- ester last week to spend 28 weeks reviewing methods of social work in the United States. "Explaining that the Catholic Family center is a multiple func- tion agency, Sister said that the Rochester agency was selected for her studies because it so closely paralleled Canadian agencies. "The soft-spoken religious so- cial worker has come to this city from Charlottetown, P. E. 1., Can- ada, following a period of 10 weeks classroom study in the Ottawa School of Social Work.-It l.s Sister's hope to bring herself up to date on modern methods and to get a broad- ier picture of the Drogram. "The problems confronting the average social worker are the some anywhere, the sister said. '1 can see some of my Canadian clients in the people I have met during these first few days of work in Roohester.' "Sister Mary Henry, a graduate of St. Dunstan's University Char- lottetown, has had 3., wealth of ex- perience in social agencies. Now she is striving ' bring her Can- adian ciients more understanding and counsel through her knowledge of States. '”No matter where you go'. Sis- ter said, 'human emotions are the same, and people react in the same pattern.' "Applaudlng the Daughters of Charity of St. Vincent de Paul for their hospitality in taking her in- to their nurses home during her sojourn in Rochester, Sister Mary Henry said that she didn't expect to be lonely because everyone has been very kind. "Agencies. of social work in Can- ada are conducted by religious com- munities such as the Sisters of St. Martha. These agencies employ the laity but the Sisters themselves go out to meet clients and give ser- vice comparable to the Rochester lay social worker, "Sister Mary Henry has discover- ed that Rochesterians must come to accept a Sister in the role of the social worker. 'At home we are ac- cepted as a very logical instrument in the social work program. How- ever, in Rochester I have found that the people must accustom themselves to the idea of in Relig- ious in this field.' "The sisters of St. Martha. A Canadian Order, do not confine themselves to the work with which Sister Mary Henry is concerned. Among its members are teachers, hospital administrators and nurses. The Sisters of St. Martha direct the operation of the social agency in Charlottetown. "After doing field and case work in the department of Catherine Wobus of the Catholic Family Cen- ter, Sister will return to the Ottawa School of Social Service to complete her refresher course with in more weeks of study. "rhen I hope to ' have more well-founded knowledge and experience to take to our n- gency,' she said." York and Vicinity Mr. and Mrs. Harry Muttart. Mnrahfleld, and two daughters.
