Adenoids are tamer-like 8mm!“ that develop in the possess between the? nose and throat. VefY W“!!! children may have adenolds. The malorlty of cases occur in children from eighteen months to_ siX 179B" of agef The presence of adenoids usually causes what is apparently a chronic cold 1n the bgad, with a. great deal of discharge from the nose. These symptoms, with shuffles, occur dur- lng the winter season. Cough is fre- quently associated with the condi- tlon. 1f the growths are large, the child will be a mouth-breather-breathing through the mouth day and night. because the natural breathing-space through the nose is blocked. This gives rise to snoring. In advanced cases, the child has a characteristic appearance of the face. The open mouth gives a stu- pid expresslon, the nostrils are small and pinched, the upper lip ls thickened. The voice may have a nasal twang. The hearing may be impaired. Bed-wetting may_be part of the symptoms. Complete removal ls the only treatment for adenolds of any sev- erlty. Parents who have been advised by their physician to have an-adenold condition corrected in their child should do so. Parents of children who show evidence of adenolds, as described, should have the children examined to find out the condition. The treatment of such a condition is advised because it interferes with the normal development of the child, lowers his level physical flt- ness and, if severe, results in a per- manent deformity of the mouth and face.
