Oo > pe SMALL-Pox.—In our last issue we mentioned the appearauce, in Long Creek, of a disease re- sembiing the small-pox. We have since aacer- tained that that loathsome disease is actually making ravages in the settlement, and at latest accounts had attacked three families. From what we can learn the infection appears to have been communicated in the following manner: [In tie early part of the summer the schooner Terah lay in quarantine with a case of small-pox on board. Previous to ita being known that it was such, a Mr. trom Long Creek visited the Schoouer, and it is supposed then received the infection. Some time ago he became vers sick, but recovered. His family were then all prostrated by the same sickness, which the physician prouounced to be small-pox. What wakes the ease more serious is the fact that many of the neighbors had visited the house, rendering the sick persons every aid in their power, and their consteruation on learning that they had been in contact with such a loathsome disease may be imagined. As yet no person hae allen a victim to it, and we understand prompt measures are being taken to ar.est its progress, —R.
