Swettenhurl. 011 the Citizen Recalls Experience In Kingston Quake One citizen to whom yesterday's Guardian despatch of the earth- quake shocks in Eastern Canada and United States brought vivid memories was Mr. Fred MacNeiil. who was in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1900, during the terrible earth- quake which occurred there on Jan. 14th oi that year. . Mir. lViacNeill at the time oc- cupied the position oi accountant in the Bank oi Nova Scotia at Kingston. He was in- the man- ager's oiilce at the time oi the quake, checking accounts in the ledger. With him were Messrs. Guv Cameron, a nephew oi Mr. D. B. Stewart, Charlottetown, and Ian MacKinnori, brother oi the late Mr. J. J. MwKinnon. The disturb- ance rocked the buildlns with such violence that it seemed to Mr. MacNeill "as 1i the end oi the world had come.” There was naturally great con- iusion.
