name and address were in a pair of
socks which were given me last night
and I take great pleasure ln writing
to thank you. l am one of the boys of
the original 6th C. M. R., but at pre-
sent belong to "D" Co., 5th Battalion
C. M. R.. There are a great many P.
E. I. Boys hero' and they are very
fortunate along the sock line. The
island people are showing the major-
ity Of the Canadian provinces ' the
way as concerns sending socks etc:
Of course i cant omplaln as I have
my mother and sisters sending me
socks but a fellow can only carry
three or four pairs, and a wet spell of
weather during a trip up often ac-
counts for those. Where we have a
surplus sent us. We turn them into
company stores and draw them when
needed. We are out for eight days
now after a sixteen days trip in the
last four of which we spent in the
' -front line. I think I had better ring
of thanking you again, I remain.

very impressive and patriotic speech
byiMr. Patrick Keoghau. Luncheon
was served after every one had done
justice to the liinerman. they procee-
ded to the parlour where the remain-
ing hours were spent in a most enjoy-
able mimnoi- by flinging some of the
most popular songs.

Dear Frlend_:- We your friends and
neighbors take advantage of your short
furlough at home by assembling here
this evening to extend to you our ap-
preciation of your loyalty to your king
and country and the noble spirit of
patriotism you are displaying in dou-
ning the King's uniform to take a hel-
ping hand in saving our grand _and
noble Empire from ruin and the Union
.lack from downfall.
We have learned with regret that
you are about to sever your connec-
tions with us yet we cannot but admire
your manly qualities and the grand
self-sacrifice you are making in yield-
ing up the comforts of home and com-
panionship to raise the sword of jus-
tice and stand shoulder to shoulder
with the rest oft our brave island boys
in strife of your country. We feel
sure that when the hour of trial comes
you will do your "bit" in a. true and
heroic style in aiding to stanip out of
existance ia. nation, that attempted to
establish its predominance over a free
and flourishing country by force of
arms. Iii departing i'roin amongst us
you carry with you the good wishes
of each and everyone and the prayers
lor a speedy and safe return. ln con-
clusion we wish you to accept this gift
as a token of remembrance and when
the sword is sheathed and this awful
carnage brought to a successful con-
