Dead Letter Office Dear DLO: Thank-you so very much for printing my letter. Your response, however, was less than appre- ciated. I find it rather disturbing that the editor of the Cadre must reduce himself to name-calling when he is faced with an opinion differing from his own. This is yet another example of why the newspaper is just a waste of Student Union money: it is a way for a handful of students to make themselves seem more important than they really are. The simple fact of the matter is that nobody really cares what you think. You can call me “shithead” all you like, but you people are the real shitheads, because of your arrogance and ineptitude. -Tracey Flick Dear Tracey: Jeez Tracey, I thought we were getting along so well. The fact that you were called a name has less to do with the fact that your opinion differed from mine and more to do with the absurd notion that the SU should pull funding from campus media entirely. You see we are, despite appear- ances, trying to make something readable and interesting and so when someone suggests wiping out our existence I tend to react excitedly. Now as for the idea that we are undertaking the Cadre to make ourselves seem impor- tant; well anyone who gets into campus media for self- promotion had better be prepared for the nonstop shitrain of negative karma and ill-advice thrown around here. So maybe we are arro- gant and inept, but, you know we are here; waiting to see you Tracy, with an e. Dear DLO: There is something wrong when there are six editors working for the Cadre and there are so many typos and poor uses of gram- mar. Do you even bother with proof- reading? What are guys paid for? I understand that you are all busy people, with heavy course loads and that you do not have enough time to put out a perfect newspaper. As a matter of fact, I barely have enough time to write this letter. This does not change the fact that I often feel embar- rassed that the Cadre, the voice of UPEL, is printing some horribly- written dreck. Please, for the sake of the reputations of UPEI students, proofread your articles before unleashing them upon the world. -Thomas Anderson Dear Thomas: I am just writng to complain that your letter had several spelling mistakes and many poor examples of grammar. As a disgruntled Cadre reader you represent a signifcant faction of our audiuence. I think it is embarrass- ing that you can not even craft a decently written angry letter, but I'll cut you some slack, if you do the same. -Deal?-Ed. Dear DLO: As I was leaving the Robertson Library the other night, I noticed two people smoking a joint outside of Duffy. They were smoking it with their fists closed around it, like I had once seen Sid Vicious do in a photograph, I must say that I do not think this kind of conduct is very appropriate for a post-secondary institution. Mari- juana may seem innocent enough, but it leads to much harder narcotics. Soon enough, students will be shooting up heroin in the various lounges around campus. Something has to be done now, before it is too late and UPEI becomes a huge narcotics depot. After all, university is about self-betterment, not self-abuse. -R. Duke Dear R. Well R., it has been said that marijuana use leads to increased consumption of other drugs but it has not been proven. It has been proven that cigarettes kill some 50,000 people a year with weed offing none. So you know, maybe don't be so quick to judge. They also say that marijuana use leads to a lack of concen- tration and an inability to remain focussed on one thought for very...hey is that a red door.. - Ed.
