Charlottetown: At s meeting o! the Water Commissioners held this day the ioiiowing report oi the break in the main service line st Mount Edward Road. July 4th. was sub- mitted ior your information. This break was reported about 8:30 am. Friday, July 4th. The Chairman and Superintendent oi works proceeded immediately to the location oi the break. 'I'he zvater was escaping irecly into the trench being excavated by the 1s- lsnd Construction Company un- der the direction oi the Works Department oi the Provin- cial Government. Considerable we- tcl had already flowed into the excavation on the west end oi the new road leading to the y Bracklcy Road. ‘ After brlei consultation, it was decided to allow the pressure to continue until ten o'clock in order that the hospitals. the Maritime Electric. manufacturers, and citiz- ens in general could be advised oi ‘lie shut-down required ior repair. 'i‘llis information was sent out by telephone and by broadcast from CFCY, Early in the forcnoon the chiei oi the Fire Department. Mr. Jew- eii. and his assistant, Mr. James Walker. visited the scene and ad- vised us oi the precautions taken should a tire occur. Because oi’ the nature oi the accident and the appearance oi ‘Inc discharge oi water. it was be» lieved that n sleeve jacket repair lob might be sufficient. This could not be determined until the pipe was in view. In order to bare the pipe all of the water that had escaped had to be pumped into the road ditch beyond a tempor- arv dam which was set up to pre- vcnl- the water flowing back into the excavation. While this was being done r-ll oi the enuipment necessary for any type oi’ repair lob was anembled. When the nine was cleared it was iound that the break ext-ended ior about. five it-et. being n crack on the top side of the pipe. One of the very first of the DDT spray matc- riels, Genitox S50 is made to givc the potato grower trouble-free action in the spray tank and maximum results on the vines. Genitox S50 will cover and weather exceptionally well and pro- vides highly dependable protection against damage caused by insects such as Colorado potato beetle, lesfhoppers and Ice beetles. Year eRer year, leading growers use Orchard Brand insecticides and fungicides to give their crops maxi- mum protection against insects and plant diseases. They know from field perfomranre that every spray or dust bearing the Orchard Brand Shield is a re- liable product of proven dependability-backed by half e century's experience in producing insecticides. Now, The Nichols Chemical Company, Limited, adds new materials to the Orchard Brand line as it brings Canadian growers e nlidc range of DDT sprays and dusts . . . mndc in Canada to mcct the needs of Canadian Agriculture. Copper Fungicida A highly stabilized fungicide ol the type known as neutral, fixed, or insoluble copper, (onidlnlnp, no free or uuccmbined lime. Special mantifnctilrinw, prqtesses impart an unusually high fungicidal ef- fectiveness per unit of copper, which means that ,the active ingredient works to the limit in pro- tecting the vines against damage caused by early and ietc blights. Sprsycop is among the easiest to use of copper fungicides, olfcrlng the time and labor-saving convenience of being used directly from the beg without soy preliminary mixing. it is finely milled to prevent clogging of spray nozzles and its spray film has excellent covering and weath- erin qualities. Gcnicnp Spray is con- ditioned so that it may be added to the spray tank just as it comes-directly from the bag. Thus it enables the potato grower to save time and money e . . and to he sure that his spray mixture is tor- ver! st ell times. Gcnicop Spray covers and ad- heres exceptionally well to give the vines a uniform protective cover of DDT and copper. It has an out- standing field record for control of early and late blights, Colorado potato hectic, ienfhoppers end flea beetles. it is an important aid towards better yields. t ' V Distributed by ASSOCIATED SHIPPERS, lNC., Charlottetown, P.E.I.
