Os the invitation of Rev. Mr. Browne. pastor of the Baptist church of North River, quite ti number of the members of tie Church of Christ attended divine service at that place Sunday evening. The rev gentlemen took for his text the latter pa rt of the twenty-first verse- of the twenty-second chapter of Matthew: “Render therefore uu'o Caesar the things which are Caesar’s, and unto God the things that are God's.” It was certainly one of the most intensely earn- est and practical sermons to which we ever listened, and plainly set forth the duty of man to man, and man to God. The speaker was especially impres- sive when he made a plea for gieater union among Christians here below, and said it was but a foretasre of that grand- er union which would take pface bye and bye when those who have had their robes washed and made white in the blood of the Lamb would stand in spot- less ptirity before the eternal throne of the most High. The singing by the choir was really fine. an anthem being rendered in a most finished and beauti- .ful manner. indicating how true it is that the gospel may be preached in song. At the close of the sermon a short social meeting was held in which several of the visiting brethren, and others took part. The singing of “Jesus lover ot' mv soul',” ‘°_Nearer my God to Thee,” “Blest be the tie that binds,” and other familiar hymns was grand and inspiring. After rising and singing “Gcd be with you till- we meet again.” the rev gentlemen pronounced the benediction and ii. blessed meeting was brought to a close._"IOM.
