Same day other N counsels will prevail in Cttawa. Some day it will be recognized that il: is worth while to extend the Railway track along our harbor front-, giving connection between the Railway and the wharves and also making provision for direct connection between the winter sbeamers and the Railway. Wnen those works are effected no one would think of placing the Railway Station at the eastern ex- tremity of the ci|:y._ Our Island Railway unfortunately does not pay its operating expanses. The main reason for this is that it has not and cannot have connection by rail with other roads. The next principal reason, is that at Charlottetown, the principal terminus of :he road, andthe principal shipping port of the Province, has nothing, ap- proaching 'decent terminal facilities. It one tenth part as much had been expended here to provide proper facilities for' the transfer of trafic from the Railway to the shipping andvice versanshas been wasted on wholly unproductive works in connection with the Haulai and St. John terminals ot the Inbercolonlal, it would have gone far toward making the Island Railway sell-sustaining. What. is wanted must urgently is some terminal N facilities. We strongly protest against Charlottetown being charged with the ccsb of a new station, to bc placed where neither the business nor shlppinglntserests _ncr the travelling public want it. placed. _ll economy is to role, lst the station walt, rather than be placed where it' is not p wanted. _ -~.',__;-‘.3 W|LL__;`L€._l¥§ THURSDAY- 0‘r'rAwA, January 13.-Word warre- oeived here to-day that the Canidian --once a week. »- _ _ - -|H¢1.¥`1b¢1`S_ °,f U1*-__S°“th C°.°_’“' F,-om Chaflotutown to was Ri '*bulaty, now .in Ipndon, will leave there VCI -oncea week for a_ period of tive years from opening oi navigation 1903. _ Parties tendering to state separate- ly on what terms they would run the Orwell and Crapaud rou'e and also 'the East and West Rivers.
