An optim- istic riots was struck by Mr. John E. Campbell in his report for the marine committee. Mr. Campbezi made the pleasing statement that the necessary improvements have been made to the Marine wharf and that accommodation can now be given to three large steamers at the wharf at one time and in view of the fact that there will be considerable movement of potatoes to the Argentine this year these improvements have been very timely. The Argentine potato trade has created quite a stimulant to the potato business. Solne discussion took place with rcaard to Queen's wharf and the possibility of lis being taken over by the government. Another im- portant matter discussel was the Fox Educational Week. The com- miltoe in charge stated that con- siderable interest. is being taken in this movement which it is realized will be of great value to theranch- ers. Mr. Peter G. Clark reported for the town improvement committee. and expressed the satisfaction that the town was enlarging the Bloc‘- trlc Light Plant and made the suggestion that the street past the plant should be paved and if pos- sible connect up with the highway at the eastern boundary of the town. which would relieve the con- gestion ovor the railway crossing and on Water Street. Cavendish. told the meeting that her tourist business was only starting u» give returns after nine year; of hard work. It wasn't only the property that was being taken but her bus- incss and her living. The privil- ege of moving the cottages meant nothing for there wu no place t0 move them. Th4; government of- fered her $1935 for the property for which she borrowed $2,000 to start. The Provincial Government had told her "we'll pusl-i you back and maybe help you standardizq the business" and when she told that to Mr. Cautley of the National Park he sold. "they have nothing wllatcvcr to do with it, the Park is the property of the Dominion Government." They do permit businesses to operate in the Park area if they came up to a certain standard. Senator Sinclair said. Mrs. Wyarid replied that when early this slimmer they started t0 build an additional cottage, Mr. Cautley stopped them and said. "so far as we are concerned you're closed now." What Mr. Cautley had done on that occasion was bad judgment on the part of an official, Sen- ator Binclair said, and h; had been recalled from this area. Re Concessions In reply to a statement byScn- ator Sinclair that it was his un- derstanding that concessions would be given former property owners in the Park. Mr. D. L. Mathieson read a letter received by Mrs. wy- and from Mr. Williamson, con- troller of National Parks. James Fender- gast interrupted to ask "why wasn‘t their word taken if they were such honorable men?" Mr. Martin's reply was lost in a roar of applause which followed the question. When he could be heard Mr. Martin sold that the commissioners. Mr. Hlggs. That was before they asked him to put‘; value On his Land. People in the Cavendish area. had valued their land a little high, Mir. Martin stated.
