The recent intelligence from India records particulars of a strange, and indeed unpre- cedented out on the Indian Gov roment and the British nacion. The Hon. Ashley Eden as secretary to the Government of Bengal, and that Government, wishing to effect better relations of trade with a tribe of semi savages io Bhootan, a province adja- eent to our own of Assam, sent this honor- abie gentleman to work the enchantment. No pains appear to have been previously taken to ascertain, im the slightest degree, how sach an offer would be received. Some tact and judgment were clearly indispensable for such a mission, and how far the Hon Mr. Kien possessed these requisites, the se- quel wili show. He set out with bis treaty in his pocket, and found when he placed his feet on the Bhootan territory that the people were opposed to his progress. College of Surgeons, England, &c. The above work contains most useful and interest- ing inlormation on the physiological changes which occur in the Reproductive System during the periods of youth, puberty, and manhood; and on the due attainment of that degree of functional vigour upon which the hopes of posterity depend. It also points out how ail the attributes of manhood can be pre- served toan advanced period of life, how they are lost, and how they can be recovered. It is free from the gross exaggerations, alarming descriptions, and dangerous remedies so generally resorted to by persons, Who, practising with false medical qualifi- cations, inflict most seriovs injuries, and render judi- cious treatment frequently abortive. The author is the only legally qualified practi- tioner whose name stands en the ‘ Medical Kegister,’ (the sole test of medical qualification) who has been exclusively engaged for a series of years in the treatment of the various functional disorders of the nervous and reproductive system, which, owiny to the great discoveries of modern science, are render- ed subservient to a rational, simple and easy mode of treatment. There is one class of medical lore, how. ever, that stands in a position somewhat exceptional to our remark, and which treats on disorders and irregularities in which morality is offended. Bor this reason the patient too often suffers in secret, or pursues in ignorance practices that daily bring him into a more hopeless condition for want of friendly advice. To such we recommend a perneal of the ‘Medical Adviser’ of Walter De Roos, M. From long practical observation of the treatment pursued in the most famous Institutions of this coun- try and the continent, for t diseases referred to in the above work, the-Proprietor has bad somewhat unusual facilities for acquiring that uniform success which has hitherto characterized his practice, in which the distressing consequences resulting from the injurious employment of mercury, capivi, sar- sapariila, and similar dangerous medicines are en- tirely obviated. Lagting, benefit in these cases can only be reasonably expected at the hands of those who devote their chief attention to such diseases; and to such only can confidence be safely extended.
