He had the best medical attendance in the city, and everything possible was done in order to effect arecovery. Howard, of 21, Lime Street, E. C., makes an effective display of the various goods for which he is sole agent in this country, including preserved salmon, lobsters, meat &c. Mr. Howard is agent various canning companies, which ap- pear to send him over a very excellent Usortment of goods, all put up in a neat and convenient form. These goods, as may be judged from wha we have already tated, are specially suitable for sale by the grocery trade, and might be so pushed with tadvantage. Light to moderate variable winds ; fine warmer weather, fine and warm to-morrow. -_ ome UCC LETTERS TO THE EDITOR. ———< A Query for ‘“‘A Barrister.”’ Sir,—I have read the letter of ‘“‘A Barrister” in yesterday's Examiner, wherein that legal gentleman attempts to defend the Supreme Court of this Island, or at least Judge Peters, in reference to the recent appeals to the Supreme Court at Ottawa. ‘*A Barrister” having thus come out, it is very strong evidence that his legal mind discovered the nesessity of a defence, and having done so, and he appearing by his letter to have a full knowledge of the old Bank affairs, | venture to ask him did Judge Peters decide that every depositor, who was also a shareholder, was legally entitled to pay the amount of his call by setting off the amount of his deposit against it, and in this way receive the full face value of the deposit, instead of dividend on it as other creditors have to take ? If such decision were given, was it in the opinion of ‘‘ A Barrister ” a sound one, and was it acted on by the liquidators and the shareholders, and if not, why not ? The letter of ‘‘A Barrister’ would appear on its face to be simply a remonstrance against your editorial remarks regarding the result of the recent appeals to Ottawa; but I think a careful reading of the letter will convince every reasonable person that the letter was not published for the,purpose of defending the Supreme Court or Judge Peters, but for the purpose of defending the enormous expense and costs incurred in endeavoring to sustain a decision which has always been considered by the leading Lawyers of Charloiteiown as wrong, and which has now been pronounced as erroneous by the highest Court in Canada.
