Mark Wright & Co., was badly injured while at work on Saturday. A piece of wood flew out of his lathe and struck him across the temple, the result being almost fatal. Last Nient’s Concert.—The promenade oncert given by the Citizens’ Band in Quren sjuare Gardens last evening was oue of the most enjoyable of the season. The music was, of course, excellent, and attendance was very large. The two electric lamps vearly oppos ite the front of the Provincial Building were lighted for the first time this season, and the kindness of the Electric Company was the subject of match favorable comment. The lamps north of the Provincial Building will, we understand, be fitted up shortly. > Hanp Bapty’ [nsurep.—Little Arthur Newson, the nine-year-old son of John Newson, Esq., met with a accident which might have resulted in the loss of a hand, yesterday afternoon. !t appears that while the men were hoisting hay at Warren Farm, the lad placed hishand on theropes of the machine fork, and while in this position the horses started ahead~ The rope sped through the blocks, and little Arthur's hand was dragged in before he could let go. After much shouting, and not till they heard the little fellow’s cries, those outside st ipped the horses, when his hand was taken out. The hand was all skinned on the inside of the fingers, the flesh was torn out of the hand below the little finger, and the thumb was split open to the bone and er ished flat. A crew were got together, and they rowed the little fellow tu town where he reevived medical treatment, never flinching one: while his wounds were being dressed. Cairns & McLean. marble workers, named Beaton and James Bateman, left the city in a boat for the purpose of going bathing in the Hillsborough. They selected a place on the Southport side of the channel, at a point about opposite Pownal wharf, and stopping the boat, took off their clothing and got into the George water. Bateman swam off from the boat, while Beaton clung to ber side. For some time Beaton held on, but finally let go and made one or two strokes, as if trying to swim. Then he began to splash the water with his hands. Bateman at first did not think there was anything serious the matter with his companion, but the splashing con- was the tinuing, he swam over to see what cause.
