(3.5) po OO COHCHCHHCHHOHHEHCHEESEEHOE After seven independent releases, Toronto’s Change of Heart have made their major label debut with a remix of last year’s limited edition Tummysuckle. shorter, more aggressive, and more cohesive album then their previous records. Their sound is raw, intense, and unique. Key- boards, ragged guitar, and double-edged vocals combine with reasonable success throughout the album, although the eighteen, minute magnum opus ‘‘Mardi Gras. e Bringdown’’ seems unnecessary and bloated when compared to the other tracks. ° Tummysuckle is undeniably a unique This is a listen album, highly recommended by yours truly. (5) -- Jason Roberts = ©2828 eeeeeoeeeoeeeoe ee Everclear World of Noise (Capitol/EMI) This major label debut from power-punk trio Everclear is actually a re-release of a 1993 independent album that the band recorded for $400 in a basement. The lyrics are intelligent, and the melodies are sound, yet the overall sound is rather sloppy. The feedback laden raw energy of this disc is both a virtue and a fault. The live feel of the songs is invigorating, yet the unpolished production causes some promising tracks to fall well short of their potential. There are some respectable songs on this disc, and to anyone who finds beauty in the Dear Mother Hen, Wednesday, Feb. 15th in the upper sunroom inthe Library, at 10:30 OR anytime in the Pit. Gary Moore unfortunately chose the . latter path (an odd fact, considering he’s = stuck ‘‘blues’’ into the title of every third % Gary Moore does have a good voice § and he’s a talented guitarist, but these facts = make the result all the more disappointing. # I’m sure this album will appeal to many m= people, however if you get an itch for the - blues, head over to my place and we’ll = break out some old Leadbelly albums.
