ed. It has been enforced till liquor selling

is some liquor still sold, just as there
are some goods smuggled or stolen from
day today. It was aald that if the law
were enforced it would greatly injure
trade. This fear has not been realised.
Our dry goods merchants, grocers.
butchers, hardware iuen, clothiers and
furniture msn generally report an excel-
lent year, and ii number of them report
the largest trade in their history.
The reason for this is obvious. The
money which before in so many instances
was squandered in the dramshops or
paid in fines at the police court is now
expended in the stores for family supplies
ur in the market for meats and vegetables.
Our farmers realise this when they come
to the city on market days and sell their
produce readily at excellent prices.
In fact the law has workcd so well that
notafow who before were doubtful or
opposed to it are now the earner;
advocates of prohibition;

tion from the young who have been

appetite that would have mortgaged their
future. Others who had begun to drink
have, by the closing of the saloons been

who support him in his work. Mr.

persons see and believe that the blessing
of Heaven has rested on the Prohibitory
Law. It has proved a good Law for
Charlottetown; It wlllbe equally s good
law for the entire Province when extend-
ed thereto.

spoke in very discouraging terms of the
situation in the Yukon. He said the
output of gold this year will be $7,000.000,`

the output is in the transition stage.' Mr.
Tyrrell sr-ated that the ohsrges made by

the cost of living eioessive. Hs said that
the railway was paying tive per cent on n
capitalization of $10,000,000 but not one-
flfth of that amount was actually invested
