E. Island, in her 76th year. Mrs. Devine was the widow o! the late Francis Devine who predeceas- ed her about 14 years ago. She had fallen ill about two months prev- ious to hcr demise and after pass- ing what was thought to be the crisis of Jler illness, hopes were held for her illtimate iecovery, but God willed otherwise and death came peacefully t0 her, surrounded by members of her family and fortl-, fled by the consoling last rites of _the Catholic Church, to the touch- ing of which, she had ever been faithful and comforted tn this faith by the frequent visits of her be- loved friends and spiritual advis- ers, the Reverend Fathers Mc- Cardle and Dougan and whose vis- its also proved a great source O! consolation to her loved ones who stood by her bedside and watched than precious life slowly ebb away. The deceased had spent all of her married life on the old Devine Homestead at Hunter River, mov- ing to Charlottetown s. few years after the death of her husband, where she spent her declining years In pence and quiet. surrounded by the comforts she had merited so well. Tile esteem ili which she was held was well evidenced by the large number of friends who came to pay her their final tribute of respect. She leaves to mourn her passing, three sons—James, who resided with hcr, Louis of Everett, Mass; Alphonsus of Concord, N. H.; and two dailghters, (Maude) Mrs. Led Doiroii, St. Charles. P. E. Island; lElla) Mrs. Allen McAleer, Poi-t Borden, P. E. Island. Two sons pre- deceased her some yenrs ago, Wil- llam who was killed while at work in tlle railway yards in Charlotte- Itown, Ernest, who served overseas in the world war and was invalided home from England and John who died in infancy. Her funeral took p§ce on Wed- nesday morning February 24th. The solemn tolling of the bell of St. Diilistzilfs Basilica marked the conveying of her remains to the sacred edifice ivlierc a High Mass of Requiem was chanted by the Rev. Father McCaidlc lifter which the funeral procession silently wended its way to the RC. But little by little this waned away until on the above mentioned date his gentle spirit winged its homew-ard night. He was born in Murray River.
