The educational journals of the United States are new exploiting the subject of school gardens, which are a. sort of agricultural kindcrgartens grafted on to the common schools. The schemeinvolves the setting apart of a certain section 'of good ground adjoining the school premises, with plots for each individual pupil, in which during a certain portion of l`» . the due school days they do actual garden work, and receive scientific instruction in the growing of fruit, vegetables and flowers, the value of soils, etc. Every rural and village school in France,Holland and Denmark has now its plot of ground in which the program of instruction in cultivation is carried on. i Thus inariagriculturalland such as ours, with the school garden system in vogue, the children of the schools from early years are trained to work in the soil, to produce crops, and to do this in a scienti- fic, methodical manner. When such chil- dren leave school, ifthey goto an agri- cultural college, they have been trained in linewith their college studies. In any case the hour devoted to the garden comes to them as a. relief from book study, just as manual. training does in the schools where it is taught. And with thegarden often said amcnz us with too much truth I that the children are being educated away In addition to the three countries above Elec ° 0.. q_i11ba_i.»ld;.i timnosm- ol-‘¥§Q Meciidohernf Build- [mm f‘_b° hm' ing ieen Street on ' linda! ith. _ _*Ar 4 o'er.o.n~:. _ r_i_t,fflg,.}~’.~_..f... n es. c .nj psny "ere" elosed""uixtil after the Annual BI sexing. _ _ f LA BARTLEPI, ‘ 15 2»wtd . _ S-cr¢_tt{y _ Card of Thanks i..___. lo tht- Electors of thc .Gly of _Ch’lown. Same time ago his _friends noticed a great change in -his physical appearance, and nolittle comment ‘was made as to the rapidity with which _he was failing: in health.
