A Marseilles cupsqpontient writes :--The International Exhibition of Nice is reserv- ‘ing some wonders for the lecsleners who may propose to pass a portion of the winter of 1883-84 upon the borders of the Mediter- | Fanean. One of these wonders is a balloon which its inventor, M. The second apartment, in the centre of the machine, is comfortably furnished for ‘passengers, to the number of eight, who ‘are placed so that they can see a long dis- ‘tance from the vessel cr machine. But they. bored him terribly. Why don’t such people learn a little social wisdom ! By the way, I observed that the President still wore three flat gold studs in his shirt front, although the fashionable society men are wearing either one or four studs. But his old fashioned courtesy covered his old fashioned studs. oe, Medical Intolerance. The last number of Puck contains a car- toon which represents a dying child lying in its cradle, a homospathic doctor on one side of the little sufferer, while on the other ‘Dr. All O'’Path” is turning away. The mother stretches out her hands in mute agony to the allopath, only to hear him say, ‘“‘very sorry, madam, if your child must die, but you ought not to have called in a homecepath first.” It seems that this is not acaricature, but a truthful represeuta- tion of what actually occurred uot long since in Oconomowoc, Wis. A dying child needed a surgical operation which, in all probability, would have saved its life. The only surgeon in the place was an allopath. He was called in, but finding the family physician, who was a homcepath, in attend- ance, declined to operate at the critical moment, He only acted on the code which the American Medical Association at its recent meeting in Cleveland refused to change. Itissaid that this code is only the formal declaration of allopaths against fellowship with practitioners of other schools, but that it does no practical harm. Here isa case that refutes the plea most conclusively. The Chicago Trivune, re- ferring to this inci’ent, speaks out in strong terms against ihe bigotry of “regulars, as they call themselves, and says, ‘*The code which the American Medica] Asscc‘ation hugs to ita bosem isa code of murder,— Winnipeg un. s—- A peper on the Sea Fisheries ond Fieh- ing population of the United Kingdom, written by the Duke of Edinburg), was read by his biother, the Privee of Wales, at the International Fisheries C nference, The essay contains much valuable infor. mation put in conetse and interesth g fi rm- The numer of bona fide fi-hermen im th.
