Editorial pA. e 4° / \ Year of the Five Editors °°: By Marko Peric This was an interesting year for the X-Press. We were actually one up on the Roman Empire. No, we didn’t stage gladiatorial games in the office, nor did we have a chariot race, although there were a number of power stuggles. Rome had a Year of the Four Emperors following the death of Nero, and over the past school year the X-Press had five copy editors. Rebecca Moore held the reigns at the [ ~ first of the year, but soon bowed | out. The volunteers who held no paid positions must also be mentioned, but there just isn’t space to elaborate on all ofthem. Jennifer Caseley, Colleen Easter, Steve Ellis, Sean Steele, Mary MacDonald, Melissa Buote, Danielle Christensen, Rory O’Connor, Janette Callbeck, and Mike Beagan were regular volunteers, and many others come to = ~~ the_ meetings although we _aren’t sure what purpose they served. Trent and I split the duties until the end of | the first semester, and upon the start of second term, Trent re- linquished his claim on the title. This left me holding the reigns. With the co-conspira- tors Carol Schneider and Aldera | Chisholm exerting their influ- | ence from the ranks of manag- ing editor and advertising manager, the X-Press had a reasonable facsimile of stability this semester. Our photog- rapher Kathy Giesbrecht stepped aside, also because of a better job offer, but Christina Estes took over her position. Our trusty production manager Grace Kimpinski made an excellent effort, and gave up far too many weekends to put out the paper. And one should not forget the other staff: oversized sports writer Scott MacDonald, averaged-sized circulation manager and up-and-coming reviewer/feature Something to put on a resume. And of course, there's free pizza. Now there's an incentive! if 1 sound rather sarcastic, Disillusioned at times, remember: 1 do like this job, usually. Of course, one has to be a fool To take a load like this upon himself. Chisholm has taken over as managing editor, volunteer Jennifer Caseley has stepped up to assume the position of advertising manager, and AVC student Paul Michaud- Nolan has been hired to fill the new position of sports/ news writer. Jason Roberts isn’t new, but he’ll still be delivering the papers next year. Atthe present no other boi positions have been officially filled, but I expect to retain the editor’s chair, and I’m sure plenty of familiar faces will still be around. If you’re still reading, you just might be interested in working at the X-Press next year. It might be hard work, but it can be more fun and excitement than a scratch-and- win lotto ticket. Sound interesting? Ifso, check out our first meeting next fall. It will be on Tuesday, Sept 12, at 6pm, in room 06 in the basement of Main. Feel free to drop in and say hello anytime between now and then.
