Campbell's Cove, King's County, is situ- ated on the north coast of the Island, about fourteen miles from Souris. In 1872 the Provincial Government constructed « de- tached breakwater, 300 feet in length and 30 feet wide, on the reef which extends out from the western end of the cove, for the protection of smell fishing vessels and boats. During 1882-3 the department re- paired the old structure, raised it two feet in height, connected it with the shore (a distance of 7U feet), and constructed an ex- tension thereto, 200 feet lovg and 20 feet wide on top~—mekivg its total length 620 feet. The whole work is constincted of square timber, the faces of the old portion, and of the construction with the shure, be- ing built pumb. The extension has a timber el pe of 1 to 1 on the seaward side. During the fiscal year 1¢91-92 the inner face of the work has been rebuilt over a length of 80 feet near the end, the entire sloping face has been re floured, the whole work re-ballasted, and fenders, cay ping, etc., put on. At Georgetown the dredge Prince Ed- ward has made acut 354 feet in length, 67 feet in width, and 16 feet deep at the inner, and 194 feet deep at the outer end, the work being closed on 7th December, 1891, Oa the pier at Mink River the sum of $1,000 was expended, owing to the pier having become unfit for traffic, and the pier has been put in good conditiun. At North Oardigan pier an expenditure of $248 68 has been made on repairs of the three outer blocks by inserting face timbers where found des- troyed by ice and sea worms, renewing cov- ering of outer block and adding fender piles along the end and faces of the work. At St. Peter's Bay work was in progress at ihe end of the fiscal year, and the great- er part of the materials required for the work had been delivered. A contract has been entered into for a work of round log open crib work to be solid!y filled with ballast, making vee of the piles in place for bolting to, instead of placing fenders. The pier at Sturgeon has been repaired, and the dredge Prinee Edward commenced work at this place on May 9:h, 1892. The work done up to the end of the fiscal year consisted of a cut 720 feet in length and 103 feet in width from the channel to the wharf; a basin at the end of the wharf, 169 feei; a borth at the west end of the wharf 100 feet long, 55 feet wide and 11 feet deep at iow water spring tides. A detailed account of the work at other places in Quecn’s and Prince Counties are also included in the report. M.ssrs. Macdonald :nd McLean deserve the thanks of the people of King’s County for the energetic manner in which they have pushed the claims of their county on ihe Government. Where so many members are pressing claims it is very difficult to get every petition listened to; but judging by what has been accomplished since the last election, very goed assurance may be entertained of what will be obtained in the future. Tue Ratt —A correspondent at Souris, whose letter was delayed until to-day, writes as follows: A very unusual thing occurred to the east bound train on Satur- day evening last. On arrival at its destin- ation, Suuris, the forward end of a box car that happened to be unloaded, dropped suddenly on to the track, On examina- tion, it was found that the set of wheela and axle that were supposed to be there, were nowhere to be seen. The conductor and driver at once walked back in search of them, They found them near the dump, a few yards east of the rock cut. The wheels had become de- tached from the car opposite the Souris Driving Park grounds, and were pushed along by the hind wheels till they reached the sharp curve at the dump, where they were picked up. The coupling pin beld on till the train stopped at the rer, Lg when it gave way. If it ted broken sooner, or if the detached wheels had not cleared the track there is no knowing but a serious accie dent might have happened.
