JANUAnY.-“Ayr is an old place and
traces of Roman occupation occasionally
turn up. Ou the way to Burn’s cottage
we are shown the ford where in the snow
the Chapman smoored, 150 yards from
Slaphouse Bridge. The lleikle stone
where drunken Charlie brak’s neck bone,"
stands behind a little white cottage, H)
yards from the road. These were 'situated
on the old way. The oottage,alow-thatched
bnlldingremains nearly as it was when
Burns was born in it lon 25th January
1759. It contains some memorials of the
poet Alloways. Auld haunted Kirk lies
about a quarter of a mile from the cottage.
Init is the grave of Burn's father. A
short distance from the Kirk is the Auld
Brig O'Doon, where Tam O’ Shanter‘s
auld :mare Hcp; left her ain grey tail.
The scenery on the Doon is beautiful
Near the Bridge stands Burn’s monument, ‘
a beautiful ediflee, modelled after the
monumentof Lysicrntes at Ath_ons,f,and
erected in 1820-23. It contains several 4
relics of Burns, Highland Iaryfs Biblenl

Tim concert oqlonday evening in aid
of St. James' choir, Freetown, was a
success. financially and otherwise. Each
number on the program received an encore
which indicated that the audience was-
pleased and nppresisted the efforts of the
performers. The address by Rev. Dr. J.‘
C. McMillan, of Cardigan, was eloquent as
wellss interesting, and the Doctor fully
sustained his reputation. When all tbl
