After the reading and adoption of the report of the Secretary-Treasurer, it was moved by B. F. Masservey, seconded by Jas. H Good, that the balance of the Ciub’s funds in the Secretary-Treasurer’s hands, be handed over to the Principal of Prince of Walee Coilege, to be expended on one prize or more, ag he may think fit, to be awarded at the close of the current term ‘for English Literature.” The meeting adjourned siue die. detente Tue Rinxk.~The attendance at the Riok lust evening was small, although it was acknowledged by all present that the ice never was in better condition. For many years past Monday and Thursday evenings have been set apsrt as rink nights, and the public recognized that fact as far as possible by avoiding these evenings when arranging for other entertaiaments Lately, however, the rink nights are taken for two or three other entertainments, and the consequence is that the attendance has been poor all round. It would, we think, be well for all concerned if, in the future, arrangements could be made not to clash with the rink people when fixing dates for entertainments. Fire.—The alarm sounded yesterday afternoon about 4 o’clock for a fire on the premises of “eo. Thorne, butcher, Sidney Sireet The fire was in the building used as a slaugiter house, stable, etc., and before it could be extinguished the structure was badly gutted. Some pigs in the building narrowly escaped cremation. The atable of John Carroll, adjvining, was on fire several times. The most damage it received however, was from water. The firemen worked liked Trejins, as they usually do, and soon suceeeded in getting the fire under control although it wasa hard one to work. The building was owned by Sheriff Curtis. We understand it was not insured. Mr. Thorne had no insurance. -_—~> Tuat hacking cough can be Ss» quickly cured by Shiloh's oure.—Reddin Bros. novidwly “PROIAL DesPpaToHEs TO The EXAMINER VICTORY!
