For the first-mentioned offence he was fined $10 or 30 days imprisdiment, and the | second charge stands over for judgment. In sentencing Mahar, His Honor gave him some salutary advice which it is hoped will have a beneficial effect. The charge against D. O’M. Reddin, jr.. of selling intoxicants without a prescrip- | tion in a room wherein were exposed other articles than those allowed by law, was adjourned till Thursday, 28th inat., for judgment. Four witnesses were examined. One swore he did not get any liquor he- tween the dates; and another that he went into the store to pay his bill, and while there Mr. Reddin asked him to havea glass of wine, which he accepted. | Another witness swore that he invited ; a friend in with him on the 16th inst., to havea drink, and bought and paid for it, | giving the money to one of the clerks after | the proprietor hud gone away. This wit- ness also stated that he had a medical cer- tificate on the 2nd September, authorizing him to buy three pints of whiskey ; also that he had been verbally told by his medical aiviser that he could get any liqnor he wanted there, and he censidered when he bonght and paid for the drink on | cate or verbal notice.
