Fishing Tops In The Dunk River According to Adolphus MacKin- non of Kensington, fishing in the Dunk River was never better than it "is right now and he says it certainly has never been better for at least two or three years. Mr. MacKinnon landed a 4 lb.. 1 oz. trout on Wednesday evening and a three lb., 2 oz. beauty the following night, using two hooks and two silver spinners on both occasions. According to this en- thusiastic fisherman, he doesn't even bother to count the one and two pound fish he catches as there are plenty of big ones waiting in the Dunk. The day long meeting was in the nature of a retreat for min- isters while the evening session was a public service. This was the first gathering of the kind held by the association and proved to lbe highly successful and rewarrh ng. Clergy in attendance were the Rev. E.II. Bean. L.D. Archer, Keith Hobson, L.M.Murray. G.A. Cowper-Smith, C.D. Matheson, Donald MacI(ay. C.A. Britten. E. Barass. Alex MacKay;xJ.K. Camp- bell, J.W. Howe, W.0. Weale, R.H. Baxter. George Somers and SH. Haslam. Under the chairmanship of the Rev. E.H. Bean the visiting lectur- er was" introduced. He was Rev. F.S. Fitzsimmonds. B.A., B.D.M. Th.. Professor of Biblical litera- ture at Acadia Unversity. In the morning Mr. Fltzsimmonds gave a thought provoking study on "The Sacrements in Worship". "All of life should be a sacrament. he said. The sacraments bring us back to that ideal in that they are sets of witness to one's union with Christ and one's loyalty to Christ, The sacrament is an outward thing. a confirmation of the inward reality." The theme of the afternoon ses- sion was "The place of the Holy Spirit in the life of the Church." "We try to live hack in the time of Jesus," he said. "but in truth it is the Holy Spirit that makes makes manifest the life and work of Jesus in our Midst." There were four things that the disciples found through the coming of the Holy Spirit a new courage. a new 'ellnwship, I new power and s new character. The fruits of the spdliit are the virtues of Christ." E NING SERVICE The evening service of wor- ship was led by the president Rev. E.H. been with the lesson being read b Rev. R.AI. Baxter who also offers prayer. The Bedequo Uni- ted Church choir sang the anthem "Bless thou the Lord. 0 my soul." Taking his text from Exodus 2!: 17-81. Prof. Fitulmmonds pointed out that the ultimate goal and pin- pose of man's redemption is to bring him into conformity with the image of God's Son. God drives out the enemy from within man but man also cooperates. No pro- gress can be made in Christian life unless man mslres the effort. but all effort is vain unless the Grace of God is in man's heart. "It is not I but Christ living in me." "So it is that the things that we find so difficult to understand and bear are in the providence of God ful- filling his will." FAREWELL During the proceedings of the day the preside..t. Mr. Bean noted the fact that before the associa- tion meets again, three of the members will have left to assume pastorates elsewhere. Rev. J.K. Campbell is leaving for Milltown. N.B., Rev. R.H. Baxter goes to Waweig. N.B. and a little later in the summer Rev. C.D. Mathe- son will take up his new work in Toronto. To all three, Mr. Bean expressed the appreciation of the group for their interest and con- tribution io the fellowship and wished them God's blessing and success in their new places of work. All felt that the day was a worth- while experienced not only for those in attendance but through them to those whom they minister. AT HOME Mr. and Mrs. Robert L. England.
