O‘i’..eary, who has one oi the lin- est private museums of rare and historical articles in Eastern Can- ada, has received a rare item, "A Sea-Bean“ irom a friend in New York City who visited Mr. Mathe- son‘s fine museum during this summer. ln her letter to Mr. Matheson, the donor writes: “It is called a Sea-Bean by the peo- ple oi South Florida. it varies in size from one quarter oi an indh to the diameter o! a silver dollar. It ls iound in sea-weed and kelp and washes up on benches. It is not common. It varies in color from light brown to jet black. in its natural suite it is dull but it may be polished to a mirror-like iinish. I found it on the beach oi Matecumbe Key in June oi 1949. The Key is io- catcd 50 miles southwest oi the tip oi the mainland oi Florida. The Key was the centre oi the violent hurricane oi i935 in which many ‘lost tiheir lives." The donor pays a very high compliment and a well-deserved tribute to Mr. lilatheson‘: splendid museum and said it was the outstanding lea- ture of her visit to Canada. A visit. to Mr. Maiheson's museum is an education in itself. Here are many items. many oi them vary valuable, dealing with the his- tory oi PEI. in particular and Canada in general. and the genial proprietor is always ready to show . visitors around his museum and’ explain their historical import-l once-O l Library iincnad at Summerside iiigh -—On Wednesday afternoon, a l small but enthusiastic gathering‘- wltnessed the opening o! the new ‘ library in the Summerside High‘ School.
