Sir Louis Davies did all in his power to aid us, but unfortunately owing to the South African war, for which' the British Government reiuired all steamers available, nothing could be accomplished. However the prospects augur brightly for the coming season. The Council conferred with the Minister on his last visit to the Island when it was decided to haves direct steamer call here four times during the comiiig season namely, in May, Septem- ber, October, and December. Steamers to be fitted with cold storage facilities and rate of freight to he not higher than from Montreal. One of the chief events of the year for the mercantile. agricultural and stock raising industries was the holding of ii Provincial Exhibit on in Charloticzown, open to the sister Pro- vinces.
