Macdonald & ON THE HOCKEY ICE. Crystals Victorious 6-3, Second Victorias Secure Intermediate Match —5 2 _ The hockey laet night was of a most interesting character. Although the senior Victorias were beaten they cannot be classed lower than their rivais, for the ice being in such a wretched condition a just judgment is impossible. The Cry~ stale had the advantage in weight, and did not fail to benefitbv it. They were fully as active as the Victorias, with the exception of H. Brehaut. Body checking was rather severe at times, and @ considerable amount of slashing was preferred. The game was not very ‘by Baker after a pretty manoeuver fast, owing directly to the ice, but at times hockey + linust as fast as any witnessed here took place. The aggressive play of the Crystals left nothing to be desired, and it can be said with justic that in this respect they were superior to the home team. Their defence was udmirable, Com ston at cover poin’ being irreproach~ able, Maclean and Sprague played excel- lently, and their rushes down the ice were splendid. Grady was decidediy the b-st forward of tae Crystale. Saunders played with his old-time prowess. The game throughout seemed to be a trial for sup- remacy in individval play; but com bina~ ion work was not forgotter. The Visitors used it more than their Opponents. It wes not till 8.30 that play began. McArthur beat Brehaut on the face and soun the fight waged in the Victoria’s ice. A few mioutes elapeed and a goal was scored by Grady. The second game was faster than the first, and H. Brehaut scored a goal. The third goal was made with Graiy. The Crystals scored twice more in this halt, while the Victorias remained as they were. Score 4 1. The second half waa vot faster than the first. Weeks played a fice game in this half and secured a goal for his side. Brehaut with a weil directed shot secured one more goal and the la«t for the Victorias. The Crystals made two goals in rapid succession by Grady and Baker. The slack defence of the Victorias at this point of the game contributed largely to these two goals. Score 6-3. Time came without any more ecoring. The Intermedi. te natch developed come interesting facts. The Victorias were vast'y superior iv the Stars 1 all points. Last night they ran away with them. The forwards of the Stars played a fine game, Lut the work of the Victorias in attack was irresistible. Some roughness was in~ dulged in,and Adams and Davy each adorned the boards. The latter play- ed a great game at _ cover-point. There was a great deal of long distance playing, and the exchange of courtesies by Morris and Davy a some points of the game left little for tbe others. Weeks payed a splendid game. One of the best feats of the night was his rush frota centre to the Stars’ goal, oc- casioning some st'ff dodging and, by.a hard drive, scoring. The first half ended with the score standing 2-@ in favor of the Victorias. The second half was very interesting hockey. The Crystals secured two goals and the Victorias three. Score, 5—2. Mabon played a strong and active game thoroughout. McLean did some excellent work, Collings was plaving a splendid game and scored for the Victorias. Mr. L. B. McMillan refereed the senior match, and Mr.W. McLeod the inter mediate. PERSONAL. Mr. James Mclaaac of the Herald.eame in from the east today.
