BUIl|]HlIllllHS lil .V A HEWSUIIS UP ll§l||lSl ll F- HALIFAX, October 1.-Bondliolders in the Hewson Pure Wool Textiles company from all over Nova Scotia, gathered in Halifax yesterday to con- sider their position. The property at Amherst is advertised for sale on October 16th under foreclosure pro- ceedings, the interest on the $350,000 of bonds not havingbeen paid for nearly two years. Various attempts have been made to reorganize the company, but these have all failed, chiefly because of the irreconcilable attitude of about 25 per cent of the holders of those se- curities, most of whom are in Prince Edward island. The time of sale is approaching and the bondholders as- sembled in response to a circular summoning them to‘ see what might be done. Colonel B. A. Weston, general mana- ger of the Eastern Trust company, which is the liquidator, was in the chair. He told the meeting that there was only one thing he saw they could do and this was to raise a fund to meet expenses which had occurred and then buy in the property, paying a proportion in cash, and if need be issuing new bonds for the balance. One _of the Banks has e. claim 'for about $30,000; two years taxes have 1 been paid for the company by the Eastern Trust, and two years' inter- est on the bonds is unpaid. The mills are at Amherst, but practically none of the Amherst people were present, these gentlemen apparently, consider- ing they had done all the could on former occasions without result. Different suggestions were made, but it all ended in this, that the bond- holders cannot be got to act together as a body and all that remains is for those who think they can do anything on their own behalf to raise funds and buy in the property or pay off claims that are pressing. Finally a committee was appointed to interview bondholders and see what could be done. This committee consists of E. F. Stevenson, Halifax; H. L. Hewson, Amherst; W. H. Wet- herby, Halifax; J. Brignell, Bridge- water, and Mayor Avard, Amherst. The committee propose consulting counsel in addition to interviewing the bondholders and they hope to be able to evolve some scheme in the interest of the bondholders. Tile out- -look is not considered very hopeful. The issued capital of the company, in addition to the bonds ls $250,000 in preferred shares and $600,000 com- mon.
