D.,who Preach- ed at both services in St. Pcter’s Cathedral on Sunday, will remain in Charlottetown for some days. He is accompanied by his father. Rev. Dr. Van Allen is the well known rector of the Church of the Advent, Boat- on, his predecessors in which office included two who became bishops, Bishop Southgate, for some time missionary bishop in Constantinople, and Bishop Grafton, of Fond du Lac. He is a leading representative of the high church school in the United States Church, and his church is well known for its full ritual. He is an interesting speaker, much in demand at congresses and elsewhere. On Tuesday afternoon, Sept Sth the residents of North Tryon School District held 9. reopening to celebratei the remodeling, of their school. A- mong those present were Rev Wm. A. Thompson, Wilfred Boutler, school inspector, the rate payers of the dis- trict and a number of ladies. The Board of Trustees, namely, A. Lefiir- gey, Jas Chisholm and G. H. Call- beck were present. The last named being secretary opened the meeting with a few well-chosen remarks. He then called upon the Rev Mr Thomp- son, who addressed those present cornplimenting them on the beautiful room they had provided'f0r their children to study in. He also spoke of the advantages gained in various ways by a good education and the necessity of the children and ' their books being agreed. He then closed his. remarks by telling the children an amusing story. Mr Boiitler next spoke, referring to the great change which had been made in tha school- room since his last visit and he said that it was equal to the best room he had seen ln his inspcctorste. He spoke of the great responsibility tea- chers hold in training the minds and the various dispositions they meet. Mr Delaney, M. L. A., Geo Ives and others gave short addresses com- paring the great educational advan- tages of the present with those of their schooldays. Much credit and thanks are due Geo Ives for the splendid way in which he has carried out his contract, also to J. Herbert Thomas, designer and superintendent.; The Messrs Boulter Bros, who did the work, and Messrs Chisholm & Son, who furnished a beautiful desk and chair. Special mention should be made of the painting, which was done by D. Mackenzie but when "Dan" "took the brush" the trus- tees left him to do the rest. and when one looks into the bright room; with its ceiling in beautiful light shades of blue the wains coating and border of hardwood; the soft wood sheathing in light harmonizing colors; the beautiful hyloplate black board; the hardwood floor; the fin- ish, such as; window caps and corni- ces in dark shades, one almost wish- es to be a boy or girl once more and have that pleasant room to study ln.
