Mr. Geddies farewell speech to the peo- pie cf Malpeque, before he left for the New Hebridesas the first mis- sionary to foreign fields. Rev. Mr. Fleck preached n very impressive sermon for the occasion to a large congregation. The presentation was in memory of Mrs. Simpsons mother. Rev. lvir. Fleck, in accepting the gift on behalf of the congregation, spoke very feelmgly of the honor that be- longs t. that community in being the first to send a missionary and money to foreign missions. Special music was rendered by the choir. A duet by Mrs. George Riley and Mrs. Garnet Campbell; also a solo by Mr. George Bowness were exceptionally well rendered and were highly ap- predated-S. --CLOSING EXERCISES OF SPRING VALLEY SCHOOL - The closing exercises of Spring Valley School were held on Friday, June 27th, in the school room. There was a large attendance of visitors and rate-payers. Assisting the teacher, Miss Smith, were Mrs. M. J. Harring- ton and Mrs. George Lockhart. The pupils conducted themselves in a very creditable manner and showed by their prompt and accurate answers that they had been carefully trained. Prizes were awarded to the pupils obtaining the highest marks in each grade, Miss Hilda Cole obtaining her Public Schhol Certificate. Miss Ellen {Harrington is deserving of much cre- dit as she very successfully passed in grade nine and ten in the one year. Miss Smith treated the children and visitors to candy and fruit at the close of the examinations. The pupils presented their teacher with a lovely blue silk umbrella. Mrs. Harrington, on behalf of the pupils and visitors, thanked Miss Smith for her generos- ity and extended to her the best wishes of the community in her new sphere of activity. The singing of the National Anthem brought the pleasant proceedings to a close-S. -DEATH 0F MR. SPURS-EON’ MCARTHUR-There passed away at his home in Brookline, P.E.I., last Thursday, a ivell known resident of that locality. Mr. Spurgeon McArthur, at the age of 67 years. Mr. McArthur although he had not enjoyed the best of health. was up and about until a week before his death.
