BRECKEN~ The death of Mr. Bracken, Post Office Inspector, and Postmaster, was leilrlwd with universal regret on \Vednesday. The public mind had been somewhat. prepared for the sad event as it was known for many days that his serious illness afforded to a man of his advanced ' years but small chance of recovery. When it was learned that a fatal termination was probable the public interest was painfully aroused, because of the wide circle of his acquaintances, his uniform kindness and courtesy to all and the large and important part he had taken for more than forty years in the political and olllcial life of the Island and the Dominion. Hon Frederick de St Croix Brecken was the second son of the late HonJohn Breck- en uf Charlottetown,a member of the Leg- islative Council, and was born in this city December 9th 1828. In early life he studied law with the late Sir Robert Hodgson and was admitted as an attorney in J une 1852. He shortly afterwards entered into partnership with the late Ron T. B. Haviland, the firm name_ being Haviland and Bracken, and the connec. tion being continued down to I8'74.During that time the drmf held a leading posi- tion at the bar.
