The forward movement got uh- derway with the opening oi’ tlI market, slowed down at mid-day, and then started up again toward the close. The late trading sent gloat prices up to their top tor the ay. The total volume was 740.000 shares with 230,000 shares traded in the last hour. “' , Rails and steel shares were the leaders on the initial rise. The oil group, after lagging behind. came through with a rush near tho close witlL substantial gains. At Toronto TORONTO. Feb. 8 — (CF)- Prices climbed slowly upwards for the first time in more than a week on the Toronto Stock Exchange to- day. Western oils showed the sharpest improvement as key issues moved strongly in moderately act- ive trading. Base metals were well ahead ill early dealings but tended to. sag from their advances towards the close. Golds were practically ignor- ed with a tow issues weakening slightly. Gains ranged up to 30 cents in key western oils. Royallto climbed to $6.20, partially recovering some of last week's losses and Anglo- Canadlan was ahead 25 cents at $4.10.
