AYEPS THE DAILY EXAMINER CHARLOTTETOWN, SEPTEMBER 16, (899 Chinamen Work Like Machines. A recent traveler in China has some- thing to say of John Chinaman that may well fill the hearts of all) Americans with envy. He remarks that John never seems to get tired or nervous, He can write all day, weave, beat gold, carve ivory, do in- finitely tedious jobs for ever and ever and experience no more weariness and irrita- tion than if he were a machine. This quality appears in early life. There are no restless, naughty boys in China. ‘They are all appallingly good, and will pled away in school without recess or play of any kind. Sport or play seems to hin so much waste of labor. He can sleep any- where—amid deafening uproar, on the ground or in any position. Bird's Nest of Steel. A steel bird's nest was recently acquired by the museum of Soleure, in Switzer- land. Soleure has an extensive watch and clock making industry and thin metal fittings are continually being swept into the roads with the waste from workshops. One day a workman noticed a pair of wagtails gathering steel filings shining in the sunlight and carrying them to their nests. He made an investigation and found that the birds had constructed a big nest almost exclusively of steel filings. When the brood of fledglings had flown, the steel bird’s nest was taken away and sent to the museum. Placing a Poet. Tennyson was a great admirer of Joaquin Miller’s verse. One day he wrote Millera letter inclosing his !atest photograph. Miller took the photograph and then surveyed the crowded walls o% his cabin for a convenient space for it. Then he skirmished around until he found arusty nail anda sledge hammer. ‘“‘What are you going to do?’’ some ole asked. ‘‘Why,’’ replied the poet, “Tennyson has sent me his picture and I’m going to nail it to the wall alongside Brown- ing’s!’’—Atlanta Constitution. Successful in preventing diseases and in curing diseases already developed, sd That is why a palpable imitation of Abbey’s Effervescent Salt has been placed on the market. The perpetrators of this insult to the intelligence of the public are printers of London, Ontario. Their object was to reproduce as nearly as possible the package used to contain Abbey’s Effervescent Salt. The cheap and nasty powder which their package con- tained did not even have the good point of being palatable. The High Court of Justice has issued an injunction against its proprietors, and its sale has been stopped, but still WE WARN THE PUBLIC that when buying Abbey’s Effervescent Salt to be sure they get it. Shakespeare’s head on the package stamps it genuine. Look for it. There is no effervescent salt but Abbey’s Effervescent Sait, w® - AVOID SUBSTITUTION. (From the Canadian Druggist.) Be Uhicag TH Dental School The above quotations are from hundreas vy eminent dentists whose close observation in many years experience in plate work has learned them the many advantages of metal over rubber. Many persons who are compelled to wear artificial teeth on,a plate find that the ordinary plate causes heating of the mouth, bad taste, shrinkage of the gums, etc., finally causing the plate to get loose, sometimes sore lips, sore mouths and sore threats, and caused directly from the wearing of an ordinary plate. We recommend.a metal plate either of Gold, Platinum, Aluminum. It isa conductor of heat and cold, it is non-irritating, and is thin- er, lighter, and stronger than any other plate. We have testimonials from persons for whom we have made metal plates—not one wouid wearan ordinary plate again. You cap have your impression taken, and a metal plate made same day, fully guaranteed because we make them onrselvee, aud know sll about the material used. Call and see specimens of our work.
