GOOD NEWS.-Mr. A. F. Webster,
Charlottetown, received a telegram
yesterday lrom Mr. M. G. MacLeod,
Omaha. Nab., stating that no Island-
ers were injured by the recent torna-
do. The information will relieve the
minds of a great many friends in this
Province as there are quite a number
of Provinclalists in the tornado dis-
trict.
LAKE VERDE. -The Debating
Club, which has been organized here
in connection with the Farmers’ In-
stlt;ut:c,.is progressing rapidly. It is
surprising to note how many of the
young men now take a Part to per-
fection while at the beginning they
were void of confidence in themselves
to take the floor and make any re-
marks. Many subjects of great im-
portance have been discussed, chiefly
agricultural, with the result that the
minds of the youth havebecome in-
terested. In the wrlter’s opinion it
would be a good thing for the older
members to exchange their ideas on
the line of Csnnda's greatest indus-
try. The principal speakers are:-

Joseph Hughes, James Woods, Owen

Smith, James Redmond, William

exhibit their speed.-Mr. P. M. Cal-
laghan has erected n splendid dwell-
ing house which adds greatly to the

Dromore, will be sorry to learn of
his serious illness. He has been con-
tlned to his home for the past two
months with stomach trouble.-The
rural mail delivery is certainly op-
preciated by those enjoying the con-

BAD ROADS.-Owing to the recent
rapid thaw, the roads near Cornwall
are in sl number of places in a had
condition. dcep gutters being cut
across the roads, and many places
badly washed out.
FOX ARTICLE.-The London Illus-
trated News of March 15th has an
nrttcle on the breeding of foxes in
this Province. The article is illus-
tr-ated by three photos in one of
which the late Mr. R. M. Johnson. is
shown in _ the act of photographing
one of the foxes on the Spring Park
Silver Black,Fox -Ranch. .-'The News
remarks that a black fox skin recent-
ly sold in London for £540 and in a
few weeks it sold again for £590. The
skins vary greatly in quality and it
has been estimated that only one lox
out of every 500,000 killed in the
wilds is the pure "silver" black de-
manded by fashion. Such facts as
these lend great importance to the
breeding of foxes as sn industry to
Prince Edward Island.
