Ewes to be retained in the flock must be healthy and have a full mouth. Broken mouthed ewes will not do well when in dry winter feed. The udder should also be inspected and owes showing any unsoundness should be dspcsed of. Too rn-uch attention should not be paid to condition, since often the thinner ewes have raised a pair of lambs some of those carrying Blllplg flesh may not have nursed. Adeguate records of each ewe should have been kept and those ewes whose lambs have not done well, because of an insufficient milk should be marked for the block. When the ewes in these cate- gories have been removed, the ilull Flock Ami t Retain Best Ewes with tho approach or Fall it becomes necessary to select the ewes to be retained in the breeding flock. A ewe that does not produce a satisfactory lamb in the snsuing spring, is a charge against the rest of the flock. For that reason the flock should be made up o! individuals in which the possibility of this occurlng is kept at a minimum. 1n addition, ewes that are culled in the fall can be marketed at a fair price and many of these ewes because of age or infirmity would not be able to stand the strain of pregnancy and their death would therefore represent a direct monetary loss as well as the loss of a winter's feed. In culling the flock each fall two main factors must be taken into consideration. siys S. B. Williams, Animal Husbandry Diyision, Central Experimental Farm.
