A correspondent the Winnipeg Tri-| bane reports enough coal now in sight within | the mine to furnish the entire province of Manitoba for two years —though, unfortunate ly, an accideotal delay may prevent it being ies this winter Experts report thousands of acres of the eight-foot seam, and the Has miles from Estevan, is now pre gard mine, 15 e sin.ilar coal on board the cars paring to pia at $2.75 a ton An Ottawa despatch says ; Speaking of the beneficial results of the Jamaica Exhi- bition wpon Canada’s export trade, Mr. Adam Brown, who is here, mentioned the fact as related in a letter recently received from Halifax, that this summer 26,000 bar- rela of Canadian flour were carried to the West Indies by the Pickford & Black line of steamers alone. Canadian flour was first introduced to the West Indies through Mr, Brown's agency at the Jamaica Exhibition. - The cable makes Sir John Lubbock say in his speech before the London Chamber of Commerce that Canadian exports were in 4 condition of commercial paralysis that couid not be indefinitely prolonged. In this connec tion the Montreal Gazette points out that Canada's exports for the first two months of the current fiscal year were almost twenty -s:x million dol , #0 increase of over four millions dollars over the record for the same y That recordis in keeping with the story of the fiscal year 189! 92, and the indications are that it will continue til! the end of 1892 Sir John evidently got hold of the wrong set of figures. There is no paraly ais in Canads’s exports. Ate time last year In a recent address before the Shef field chamber of commerce, Alex McNeill, M. P., showed that while the United States took $2 of England's manufactured goods per annum of the population, Canada took $8; while Austria took 16 cents per head, the West Indies took $11.65; while Russia took SL cents per heed, the Cape took $23: while lraly took $1 35, New Zealand tock $26, while Germany took $2.06 per head, Victoria took $31; and while France took $2.16 per per head, New South Wales took $3150. As the Halifax Herald points out, the Wiman scheme would reduce England's exports to Canada from $8 to $2 per head of the Canadian population. That's how England would be benefitted Henry Clews, the New York banker, in his circular of the 29th ult. says: Contrary to what has been expected as the result of the iC Ihe Michaelmas Term of the Supreme part opened this forenoon, Chief Justice Sullivan and Mr. Justice Hodgson and Mr m the Bench. Masonic - HymentaLt.—The North Sydney Sun contains an account of the marriage cf Mr. John Piaw Ball, C. E., to Misa Alice Maud Murphy, of St. John’s Nfll, the Rev Mr. McPherson, of Bras D'or, b-ing the celebrant. The bride is described as new traiff, our exports are declining whi'e our imports are increasing. For the month of | September, our imports were $11,500,000 above those of last year; and for the three months Ju'y. Augast and September the in crease was $27 200,000; whiloc the exports for September shaw a decrease of $20,000,000 Thus the Sep'ember movement is $31,500,000 less fxvorable to us then was that of a year ago. The only featare of relief against this adverse tendency is the fact that speculation seems to be reviving in London and that some liberal amounts of securities are being sent from here to that market. [tis alse in our tavor that foreign bankers at this centre ap. pear to have liberal balances for use on time loans. —The Farmer's Review, speaking of the potato crop in the United S‘ates, says ; The potato crop, early and late, taken to- gether is very poor. In Lilinois 90 per cent. of the correspondents report that the crop is very poor, in many cases almost a complete failure. A nearly similar state of atfairs exists in Indiana, Missouri, Kansas, Nebraska, [owa and Wisconsin. In Ohio and Michigan the crops are slightly better, about two-thirds of the counties reporting from a three-fourths to a full crop. Ken- tucky reports a full average crop in about | half the counties. In Minnesota about | oue-third of the counties will yield an aver- age crop, but in most of the othera it is de- eidedly poor. More than half of the cor- respondents in Dakota report a full crop. Personal. Registered at the Queen Hotel yesterday ; W. C. Kennedy, city; Jas Fearon and party, Halifax; Dr. F. P. Taylor, city. The college met the red and blacks at every point, and came off victorious by 7 points tu 0. The game was 4 fiercely contested one, but, except in the latter part of the first half, the Wan- derers were on the defensive. The scoring consisted of a try, made ten minutes alter play began, which Gurdon promptly con- verted into a goal. Ten minutes before the end of the second half the scrimmage | was elose on the Wanderer’s line. DI. housie’s forwards forced the ball over and made another try, this putting together a total of 7 pointa. The students made a grand demo stration in celebration of their victory over the hithertc invincible Wan- derers, marching through the streets and chering till they became hoarse. - > A LONG PuRSE or a short purse.
