This has now become a chronic mistake. Year after il yearat public iiieetiiigs and'clse\\'hcre the desirabilit_v of niaking a real bid for sumnier tourists has been eloquently discussed and concurred in and year after year no definite steps have been taken. _ It is claimed that in the principal centres hotel aceonimodatioii is inadequate. This objection does not hold good. Both Cliarlotteto\\'ii and Summer- side have .~‘ui'l‘icieiit hotel accommodation for all who Wish to remain in the cities. The great majority of tourists leave their homes to escape from cities and get to the seaside. We have considerable hotel ac- commodation ori the North Shore and hundreds of homes throughout the pi‘o\'ince which could accom- modate from two or three to half a dozen visitors. The number which could thus be accommodated would easily aggi'egate many hundreds. Every mile of shoi'e around the Island would have its quota of regular summer visitors if the matter were taken hold of by an energetic org'aiiization. All that would be required would be to tabulate those willing to take summer visitors the kind of accommodation available and the cost per day or per week. This in- formation could be placed at the disposal of visitors and they could take their choice. The cost of such an undertaking would be but a bagatelle while the rev: enue could easily be considerable. This method was adopted several _years ago in Summerside by a small ‘tourist association and many of those who came have ever since been regular summer visitors. There will be no danger of overcrowding our hotels; they are as already said, good for all the visi- tors wlio will want to remain in the cities, of whom doubtless there will be many. An effort along this or similar lines would no doubt result in bringing many visitors to the province and introducing them to the best summer climate in America and their visits would no doubt be repeated in future years. The hotels Will " follow the trade, not the trade the hotels. What we need is the visitors and the hotels will look after themselves and will multiply if necessary. The time to look after the summer travel is now. With a little enterprise a Tourists Association could be organized and such information secured as would fill the province with tourists every summer. Who will make the move? lil. I‘Ii)l'|`()R] .\ L .\`()'i`l‘]S.
