IN MEMORIAM ' MICHAEL McCARTHY On the morning of December 10th-‘ residents of Morell Rear learned with regret the passing of ‘one df its oldest and most respected citizens, Michael Mc- Carthy, in his 92nd year. The late Mr. McCarthy was born in Morell and had lived all his life in this community, where he engaged in farming and building. The beautiful home- I in Morell Rear, and innumer- able homes and farm buildings in a wide area throughout the eastern section of the" province stand today like living monu- ments to his ingenuity and crafts manship, and from his home there ever radiated such a frien- dly atmosphere that spelled “welcome” to all and earned for him from all his friends the af- fectionate name of “Pa”. The late Mr. McCarthy re- tired from active work several years ago, but up to» about a year ago he was still able to maintain a keen interest in all the activities of the home and community, and was always rea- dy to lend a helping hand at minor "chores when occasion or emergency demanded. Mr. McCarthy was an exem- plary Christian and for the past decade of .. his life was a daily worshipper at Holy Mass in his parish church. wife, the former Matilda Hughes, predeceased him, also two sons, Patrick and Joseph. The funeral took place on the‘ ‘ morning of December 13th from his late residence to the Parish Church of St. Lawrence O'Toole, quiem Mass was celebrated by the pastor, Rev. Eric Robin with Rev. Phelan McKenna, Deacon, Rev. Reginald Phelan Sub-dea- con and Rev. Floyd McGaugh, Master of Ceremonies. The pallbearers were Justin McCarthy, Daniel Sinnott, Joe Sinnott, Eugene Sinnott, Leonard Ryan and John O'Neil. Interment was in the family plot of the parish cemetery, where service was conducted by his former pastor, Rev. IN MEMORIAM REV. WILLIAM HAMILTON The death took place recently at Banton Harbor, MI'ch., U.S.A. of ‘Rev. William J. Hamilton, J. Hamilton and Mrs. Hamilton, (nee Jennie MacPhee). Rev. Mr. Hamilton was a grandson of the late Mr. and Mrs. Angus Mac- Phee, I-Iopefield, P.E.I. He was born in Lynn, Mass., 43 years ago and studied for the ministery of the Congregational Church. He held pastorates in West Roxbury, Mass, Avon, Conn. and in the state of Washington. .A year ago he became pastor of the First , Congregational Church in Benton Harbor, Mich. During World War II he was a chaplain in the American Army and was wounded during the ad- vance across France. He was awarded a decoration for heroic conduct. He is survived by his widow and two of a family, Susan and Mark Ian. IN MEMORIAM ROBERT MacPHERSON It was with a feeling of sad- ness that the many friends and relatives of Robert MacPherson heard of his death in the P.E. Island Hospital on August 19, 1957. 'In the spring of 1956, his health failed him but after spen- ding some time in the hospital he regained a measure of health -and he was indeed happy to re- turn to his home. Again in May, 1957 he was once more obliged to enter hospital. It was hoped by all that an early recovery to health would be realized but, in- stead his condition became worse and he passed peacefully to his reward on a summer’s afternoon on the above mention- ed date. . The late Mr. MacPi1erson en- joyed a wide circle of friends who will miss him. In .his com- munity life,- he was always glad to serve and help others. During World War I he went forth to serve his country and, while ov- suffered severe erseaa he wounds. Besides his sorrowing wife at North Wiltshire, he is survived by one brother Louis H. of Darl- ingtonfa-nd two sisters, Marg-Bret Mrs. W.B Jenkinson, Brewer, Maine and Flora,..M1‘S- Brauder Mathews of New York. The funeral which was Very largely attended was held from the MacLean Funeral Home. The service was in charge of his P§S' tor the Rev. C.R. Moase, 8SSlS- ted by Mr. Smith. The pallbearers were Millar Henderson, Life I-Iowatt, John A. MacDonald, M.R. MacLean, Mu- rdock MacLeod and Everett Ni- cholson. The remains were interred in Brookfield Cemetery and there a service was held by members of the Canadian Legion with com- rade Hector Currie conducting the service. David Mills sounded the Last Post and Reveille. IN MEMORIAM ARCHIE MacPHEE There passed peacefully away at his home in Forrest H11 on November 22, of Archibald Mac- Phee in his eighty-eighth year. The late Mr. MacPhee was the last surviving member of a family of thirteen whose ances- tors came from the Isle of Skye. Of a quiet and pleasant nature, he will be missed by his many friends, neighbors a-nd lit- tle children whom he: loved and was loved in return. Most keen- ly will.the loss be felt in the home where he was a good and kind husband and father. He was twice married, first to Annie MvacKinnon who prede- ceased him years ago; then to Esther Anderson who with his son Murdock on the homestead tenderly nursed and cared for him during his brief illness. A daughter Christine (Mrs. Os- car Vaniderstine) of Vancouver, also survives him. He has one «grandchild and three great grand children in Vancouver.
