The term of the Legislative Assem- bly, just dissolred, had many months left and much surprise is expressed that the electors should have been put to trouble and annoyance at this un- seasonable time. However, it is evident that the Go- vernment are aeting où the sssump- tion that the present time is auspi- cious, owing to the result of the recent Dominion eleetion. Suflice it to say, that the peo- ple have been deceived and disappoin- ted. | The publie service has been degrad- ed ; the system of expending the mo- néys granted for road service without competition, has become a public scandal, and the people have decided that the money shall be applied to the purpose for which it was voted, and not to government officials and their favorites. It may be asked—What is the poli- ey of the Opposition ? The Opposition hold that the gov- ernment should adopt measures to re- cover all moneÿs dus this province from the Dominion. That the financial position of the proyince shall be ascertained exactly, and means devised for making reve aue andexpenditure meet for the fu- ture. 45 They assert that the whole Road System is corrupt and inefficient and requires to be re-modelled. They demand that the law which now permits absentee representation be 50 amended as to prevent a repeti- tion of the recént abuses. They coademn the mismanagement of the Stock Farm, and the failure of government to give proper encourage- mentto agriculture and fruit growing. They insist that no publie money shall be expended äân excess of the votes of the legislature;‘##ilèss in case of urgent necessity. A radicakghange will be made in the administration of the Public Works Department so that the money row misapplied, shall be used for the pur- pose intended, and not for $he benefit of private individuals as is now the eustom.
