Camp— bell today announced the appointment of Ronald J./Baker, B.A. M.A.,.L.L.D., and form er President of the” University of Prince Edward Island, as the new Minister of Highp ways for Prince Bd-x ward Island. In keep- ing with tradition, Premier Campbell ap- peared at a press conference in the Charlottetown Hotel where his niw minister was introduced to the press corps and an elequent address was delivered by the Pre- mier in presenting the credentials of his new“ appointee. _In this address, Premier Campbell stat— ed that "...in view of the outstanding con-' cOncerned. tribution made by Professor Baker to the overall develop- ment of the new sy- stem of highways cre— ated at the University of P.E.I. during the past summer, the ca— binet could think of no other man who so _richly deserved this position. Anyone who was in anyway familiax with the university campus could not help but be amazed at the extraordinary amount of pavement which is now available for the convenience of all In a province that has the ghighest concentration »a: paved roads per ' capita in Canada, the ability to more than double this amount in' the span of four short months, and in such a confined area, must be looked upon as one of the great- est achievements in the history of the development of our Island home". The Honorable Mr..Bakér, in a short speech outlining his role at the Univer- sity, stated that he was happy to say that with the addition of its new parking ’ facilities, U.P.E.I. was fast—becoming the leading university in Canada in Parking lot Development. He also went on to point out that the province was planning to install toll—booths at strategic points throughoht the univer- sity and thus, in the end, the new system would pay for itself.
