The Best of Charlottetown For four weeks, The Cadre asked its readers to give their opin- ions on what they thought were the best things in Charlottetown. Divided into 14 different categories, the poll covered such various topics as local bands, fast food restaurants and laundromats. Out of 8,000 polls pub- lished in four separate issues of The Cadre, 34 were received in Happy Boxes“ located around campus. Unfortunately, two different Happy Boxes“ were stolen from the Robertson Library breezeway, so it is impossible to determine exactly how many polls were filled out. Nevertheless, the good peo- ple at The Cadre have compiled the results and made their own picks too. Finally, after much sweat and blood, we present you with the Best of Charlottetown, 2000. BEST BAR READERS Baba s Lounge/Panther Lounge STAFF Baba s Lounge Our first category was a tie between Baba’s Lounge and the Panther Lounge. What is the most interesting about this category is that only two people voted for Myron’s, which is undoubtedly the most popular night spot in Charlottetown. Of course, this only confirms our worst suspicions that the people that go to Myron’s are illiterate. tI TRAVEL CUTS SWAP ate TALK Contact Travel CUTS for details Toll free 1-800-279-4544 Wwww.swap.ca student Work Abroad rrograminie Working holidays in Wielamcreinemnceltacy ASolom Men meceneh tne USA, ond many m BEST COFFEE SHOP READERS Beanz STAFF Tim Horton s This category was another surprise, considering, the fact that Beanz isnt on’ every: corer. in Charlottetown, unlike a certain other coffee shop. Not many peo- ple on staff at The Cadre like cof- fee, so we just picked the place where Jeff used to work before he became cracker vender/production manager. BEsT FAST Foop READERS Wendy s STAFF Wendy s Wendy’s ran away with this cate- gory with 15 votes from the read- ers, followed by Dairy Queen and George’s Take Out. Now, it may seem that we are kissing up to Danny Murphy, but the truth is that Wendy’s fast food is the best. As far as fast food chains go, Wendy’s has a good variety, and best of all, the meat has the texture of meat. Sure George’s has those things too, but we think that the term ‘fast food’ only loosely applies to them. BEST PIZZA READERS J.R. Capone s STAFF Little Christo s Even though some of the people at The Cadre question J.R. Capone’s standards for food preparation, the readers thought that its pizza was the best. The truth is that Charlottetown doesn’t really have a good pizza place. The staff thought that Little Christo’s was better than nothing because it has a nice, clean eating area and the pizza has a reasonable quality. BEST GROCERY STORE READERS Atlantic Superstore STAFF Atlantic Superstore There’s no doubt why both the staff and the readers (with 19 votes) picked the Atlantic Superstore: because it’s fucking huge. It’s proximity to the university proba- bly gives it an edge for most of our readers too. BEST HAIR SALON OR BARBER SHOP READERS Picasso s STAFF John Lecky & Company A haircut can be a very personal thing and each person has his or her own loyalties to a specific hair salon or barber shop. The readers were extremely divided, but Picasso’s won with six votes. Likewise, the staff was divided on this category. We did, however, like Shawn’s reasons for liking John Lecky so we chose that. BEST LAUNDROMAT READERS Home STAFF Super Clean Actually the real winner in this cat- egory is nothing, with 10 votes. The Cadre 5
