' ~ CITY COUNCIL AND AUTOS.-An emergency meeting of the city Coun- cil was held Saturday morning. There were present Mayor Wright, City Re carder Martin, the assessors and .a Councillors except Councillor McKinnon. The meeting was called in connection with the assessing of automobiles, the owners of a number complaining that the valuations were too high. Couns. Yeo, Webster, Ril- cy, Miller, Rattray and Smith all thought that the assessors should modify to some extent the valuation placed on cars. A flat rate of $500 had been imposed in previous years and they considered the same should be , continued. The assessors did noi agree with this claiming that thc difference in the cost of cars was so great in many cases it was not fair to owners of chesp cars. It was sug- gested that the assessors' should hold ii consulation and reconsider their de- cision as regards valuations and rc» port later. 'EARN8CLlFFE.-- Mr. and Mrs. S. V.
