B., Oct. 30. since the Saxby gale has such a wind storm prevailed, as for a portion of to-day’s, When the storm was at its height shortly after noon a particularly sad drowning acci- Gent occurred. With some companions Fred. Mundee, aged 13, son of F. Mundee liquor dealer, was on the wharf fronting on Courtney Bay, He picked up aboard, and was in the act of throwing it into the water when the wind caught it, carrying Mundee into the water. An alarm was soon given aud Fred Young, aged 19, son of Robert Young, formerly a dry goods merchant in Charlottetown, who worked in Howe's fac- tory, secured a life buoy, attached about filty yards of rope to it, and giving the ead of rope in charge of boys, leaped into sea, which was at the time dashing up ten to itteen feet high, to rescue Mundee. Young swam out to the youngster, but to allow him to do so, the rope being short, had to be attached to a pole. Just as Y oung reached Mundee, the rope slipped off the pole and the two commenced to drift about. Young supported by the buoy firmly holding Mundee in hisarms. Two men got a boat, and in launching it was swamped by a mountainous sea while a second one launched a few min- utes afterwards was smashed to pieces. Word was sent to Reid’s Point for a lifeboat and with promptness it was launched and manned, but when about half way to the scene, Young, who had fought for life in the water for an hour had disappeared. The bodies of the two young fellows were recovered this evening. Ottawa News. Orrawa, Oct. 30.
