The reason is that “BLACK TWIST” is made from the best native leaf, cured with superior ingredients. “It's the Chew For You" I! derstood by a reference to motto "For God and Country". During the year 1936-37 we held nine regular meetings which were well attended and great interest shown. Our enrolment. consists of thirty-eight. members who hove worked diligently for the success of this subdivision under the di- rection of our capable president, Mrs. Leslie Ramsay, who showed rilnarkabie executive ability. ‘ 'I‘he diocesan convention which was held in Kcnslngton was en unqualified success; due. we feel, to its competent officers and the hearty co-operation. of officers and members of our subdivision. The convention opened with a public meeting. Our President, Mrs. Leslie Ramsay very fitting- ly welcomed the delegates and speakers. and assured her hearers that it was indeed. o. privilege in have the opportunity of meeting so many distinguished Catholic ladies of our diocese‘ and a distinct honor to have his Excellency Bishop O‘Su1livan and Rev. Dr. Murphy. Rector of St, Dunstarvs University with us. Mayor C. J. Cooke of Kensington also welcomed the dele- gates and gave them the keys of the city. The report of the National convention by the Diocesan Pre- sident. Mrs. Frank Murray was comprehensive and beautifully rendered. The address by his Ex- cellency Bishop O‘Sullivan was highly instructive. as well as en- tertaining: showing in a vivid wnv the duties incumbent upon each individual iri an organization such as ours. Rev. Dr. Murphy's aci- riresson "Adult Education" was full of advice and if acted upon would accrue to us a great amount of benefit. We are grateful to all who in anyway made the conven- tlon the success it. was. Our “Social Service Committee” under the direction of Mrs. An- drew OKeefc has accomplished much. Needy children clothed, boxes packed and distributed at Christmas, clothing and supplies given those in need, and in one particular case a lady who had been suffering for years was sent; to the hospital for an operation and recently returned cured. We wish to thank the several doctors who so generouslytreatcd this pati- ent. without any remuneration whatever. The hospital bill in- curred in this case was defrayed by the league. Great credit. is due Mrs. 0‘Keefe for the energetic manner in which she supervised this charitable work. The sick committee were faithful in their visits to the sick and frequently supplied delicacies for them. IL‘; Study can. We were indeed fortunate to have Mrs. E. G. Glllis as con- venor of Education. Mrs. Glllls has a natural aptitude for this work. Four Study Clubs function- ed in this subdivision. The sub- jects treated were Credit Unions, Liturgy of the Church and Bio- graphy. The league also support- ed the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine by having members as- sist in teaching catechism. _ Entertainment L00|l 0lIT FOR Y0llli FliillliE Protect Yourself Againat Modern Living That Brings Excess Weight.
