Fepruary 8, 2005 THE CADRE © 19 Largest Ever UPEI Delegation Heading to Ottawa: Organizers Putting A Lot Of Love Heart Into Luv Fest ’05 Kimberley Johnston Reporter While love and politics do not often. go hand in hand, this year’s LuvFest fund-raiser for the Model UN and NATO groups promises a good time for all. The party will be great for those who are lookin’ for love or just want to get their groove on, says co- organizer Shami Harihan. “We have been putting a lot of heart into this event, and we’re guaranteeing a great time for everyone who comes. It’s going to be mind- blowingly HUGE!” The co-organizer, who minors in political studies, says the party will take place at the perfect time and their will be many activities to take part in . maybe even a kissing booth. “Luv Fest ’05 is going to be a crazy Valentine’s day theme party at The Wave next Thursday night, (February) 10th. It’s right on time for spring break and Valentine’s day. There’s going to be a DJ so everyone can bust a move all night long. There’ ll bea special drink at the bar called Love Potion. There’ll be free condoms, a dress code of “red- for love”, and a date auction - so if you don’t have a valentine yet, here’s the place to find one!” She added all the profits from the date auction will go directly to the Model UN and NATO funds. Dates to be auctioned off will include members of the UPEI Panthers mens hockey team, a “twins” category, and “much, much more”. Harihan added this year is special oe oe rilbetelee group representing the university ever... so they need lots of money. “Every year, we attend the Canadian International Model United Nations conference in Ottawa, which attracts students from over 15 countries around the world every year. This year is especially significant for us UPEI students, since this will be the biggest. group of students we’ve ever taken to the conference. So we’re representing UPEL as strongly as any of the other bigger schools in Canada are!” “There are 20 of us in UN, and we’re from all kinds of different faculties/ departments here at UPEI. There are also seven students attending the model NATO conference in Ottawa this year.” Harihan said the event is being promoted and organized by the Model UN and NATO groups whereas the Student Union and the Wave are taking care of the technical and business issues. Harihan said the idea to organize the political bash sounded inspired form the start and all parties involved have been working hard to turn it into reality. “When the idea of “Luv Fest 05" came up, we knew it would be an awesome project to take on. Everyone loves a good time at the Wave, and _ what better thing to celebrate than Valentine’s Day?” - .. Harihan added it beat out any other fund-raising ideas by far... and it will indirectly help UPEI as well. “It’s true that this is a fund-raiser for us, but there are all kinds of ways to fund-raise. So instead of doing something boring, we thought we might as well have a big party. In terms of good for the uni(versity)- first of all, it will be a great event right here on campus for all the students (who are of age) to come out and have an awesome time. And secondly, since it is a fund- raiser for model UN and model NATO - the conferences we attend make a really good name for the school, especially since we have such good representation this year.” Advanced Tickets will be sold at a table in the Student Centre all this | week from Monday - Thursday as well as the day of the event. Advance tickets are $6 and students are encouraged to. buy them ahead of time.
