Sh: horses that were in one or the barns were saved. but a valuable cow and calf and also two young pigs were lost. Luckily the tine herd o! cattle were not housed as the day preceding the nre was warm the cows were leit in the pasture neld. A lot of machinery and utensils stored in ‘ the granary went up in the flames. The neighbors gathered. as soon as possible when they learned of the flre and did what they could to save machinery, etc, and succeeded in‘ saving/the dwelling house and a pig- gery which contained a. number of pigs. The loss is a heavy one, esti- mated at about 33.00.00 A small amount of insurance was carried it is understood. The sympathy of the community goes out to Mr. Hughes in the great loss he has sustained. He will make preparations tor build- ing as soon as the planting and seeding is over, and will endeavour to be ready to house the season's crops. Mr. Walter Hughes had his hands somewhat burned in his cf- forts to save some of the property from destruction. iii-i. ‘MES. LLOYD E.
