'9(al.tIx Montague School Board To Expropriate Land At a special meeting of the Mon- tague Board of School Trustees yesterday, it was decided to expro- prlate the norm portion of the Community Welfare League grounds as a new school site. This action was taken by the trustees following a special meeting of the directors of the league earlier this week at which it was moved that the land be not sold at ifs than somewhat exorbitant, the trustees; have invoked the power of the School Act, section 47, sub 2. which reads that "The board of trustees may, with the approval of the Min- ister, lay out such school lot of grounds up to a maximum of five acres". The trustees have now the anproval of t e Minister in Wl'li.lnK' to lay out t e site for the new school. Also in support of this action there was read the act to incorpor- ate the Community Welfare League of Montague passed in 1921. This act sits sets forth the aims of the league which are as follows: '”Ilhe league shall be non-sectar- ian, non-political and non-profit. sharing to its individual members, and shall have for its objects the benefit and welfare of the town of Montague, its citizens, and the community at large. i "By developing a community spir- it among its citizens. ”By using its influence towards the betterment of the town schools in the matter of buildings, grounds and equipment, that will tend to- wards the intellectual, physical and social advancements of the pupils. "By the purchase of lands to pro- vide sltes for public buildings, in- dustrial and commercial establish- ments and residences. ”By providing ways and means in such a manner as by it may be deemed advisable for the carrying out of these objects". It is proposed to have 9. detail- ed plan of the grounds drawn up. and for this purpose a surveyor will be brought here in the very near future to complete this task. city Already Continued from page I being brought here by Bill Lynch will offer fun and thrills for kids from eight to eighty. The mid- way, larger than ever before and with many brand new features. will be brought to the Province by special trip of the car ferry at Borden. This is done to facilitate its crossing while not interfering with the regularly scheduled trips of the ferries. That many people do not care to be forced to leave the grounds during the morning in order to cat has been given greater atten- tion each year. For convenience there will be a horseshoe bar and main dining room srvlng meals supplied in the dining room by the Women's Institutes of Corn- wall and Meadowbank. In addi- tion there will be a large number of booths where quick snacks will be available. At the far end where the horse barns are located there is a special restaurant to provide meals for the horsemen. A large number of them are pat- ronizing it and have been for sev- eral weeks past. Youth Day Features An innovation will be made this year in introducing Youth Day on Tuesday. Children from schools all over the Province will be present for a full day's program which is being inaugurated to foster greater interest among them. It will include talks by experts on horses, cattle, sheep, swine and poultry in the morning starting at 9.30. Later there will be a show- ing of films and discussions on silos, forestry, weaving. pottery and nutrition, and in the after- noon they will attend a free per- formance by the vnudeville stars. Another feature which will show I great improvement this year will be exhibition of handicrafts by the Women's Institutes. The great new extension to the Fox Pavilion makes possible the showing of a far greater number of exhibits this year and the women are tak- ing full advantage of the fact. For several days they have been in the pavilion preparing and de- corating it to welcome the large crowd of visitors expected to visit there. I Big Racing Program Always headlining Old Home Week is the extensive harness racing program which nightly at.- tracts several thousands of fans. This year they will race every night during the week as well as on Wednesday. imunuay and Fri. day afternoons. Great amount of racing this year is made necessary by the large number of horses present now or arriving on each crossing of the ferries. The cream of the Maritime crop is expected.
