"That it is expedient to provide for a superannuation allowance for John Anderson, the present Provincial Auditor, and that a biii be introduc- ed, embodylnk the said provision. The motion carried. A bill in ac- cord with the resolution was read a first time. Second reading was giving to an Act to provide for the apportionment of the allowance ill lieu of taxes on railway property. On motion of Hon. Mr. Clark, sec- onded by Mr. Cox, the House went into committee with Mr. Mustard in the chair, on a resolution opposing the prohibition of spring shooting. The purpose oi the resolution, which has been published in full in the press, was explained by the promoter. The resolution requests that the Migratory Birds‘ Act be amended to permit the spring shooting of wild geese in this Province between the twenty-fourthday of March, and the tenth day of April, and the full shooting oi wild geese between the first day oi October and the four- teenth day of December in this Pro- vince, and the spring shooting of brant between the twenty-fourth day of May and the tenth day of June, and the fail shooting of brunt be- tween the first day of October and the fourteenth day of December in this Province and recommends that a committee of the House be named for the purpose of preparing a mem- orial to be presented to the House i of Commons setting forth the facts embodied in the resolution. i The resolution wus discussed with approval by Mr. Allen, Dr. McMillan, Mr. Sharp, Mr. Butler and Mr. Darby. The resolution was agreed to with- out amendment. AFTERNOON SESSION Thlrd Reading: __ _An Act to amend an Act respect- ing domestic animals. An Act to amend the Statute Law. An Act for the care of ancient bur- ial grounds. ' An Act to amend an Act to assess, levy and collect taxes on income and personal property. On motion of Hon. ' Mr. Wright, the House went into committee with Mr. Darby in the chair on the fol- lowing resolution: That the following petition be sent to His Excellency, the Governor General in Council. To His Excellency, The Governor General in Council: We, I-lis Majesty's dutiful and loyal subjects, The Legislative Assembly of Prince Edward Island, in General Assembly convened approach your Excellency and represent:- That the Province of Prince Ed- ward Island, being without forest and mineral resources, and practically without manufacturing industries, is dependent entirely on the success of Agriculture and Fishing, not only for its prosperity, but for its very exist- cnce. That being situated so far from the manufacturing industries of Ccn- tral Canada, Prince Edward Island is unable to compete with the farmers oi the Central Provinces in supplying farm produce to those manufacturing centres, owing to the CXCSSSlVe cost of transportation. That. owing to thc above fact, thc Province of Prince Edward Island is dependent on foreign markets for the sale of its farm produce. That, the policy of the federal government at the present time, in building up trade barriers against foreign countries has had a tendency to close these markets against us. That at the present time the prices received for farm produce and fish are so excessively out of pro- portion to the cost oi Agricultural Machinery, rope, and other manufac- tured goods, that it ls-impossibie for either farmers or fishermen to carry on except at a. heavy loss. That ii these conditions exist for any continued period of time, it will mean bankruptcy for the Province.
