By the Africa, arrived on Tuesday after». noon, we received Boston journals to the evening ofthe" 31st ult. Of the news, which is of rather more than ordinary intg. rest, we give, on other colums, a copious ‘synopsis, including details of one of thosg frequently occurring and terrible accidents which might almost lead us to wish that railways and locomotives had never been invented. That pestilence--the Yellow Fever——continues to rage in Norfolk, Va.’ without any abatement. The Boston Even- ing Journal snys:— “Tlio accounts of the ravages of the yellow fever at Norfolk on the 23d and 24:]; are as heart-sickening as those which we have published for several days past. It will be seen by our telegraph dispatches that the noble-hearted Mayor of the city has fallen a victim to the disease while no- bly laboring for his fellow-tnen.—Nurses were fast pouring in and relief from all quai-ters was being received. A corres- pondent of the Baltimore Sun, writing on the 21th, I r. M., says: " ‘ I cannot tell you of any abatement of the fever, though Ithink it has reached its climax: 220 prescriptions were ut up at the dispensary yesterday, and as field you before, there are five other apothccary es- tablishments in the city doing a large busi- ness.’ ” “ The Richmond .Rine1-{ran says, that the fever is pronounced by Dr. Stone, from New Orleans, the same that afllicted that city in 1853, and to which the Creoles gave the name of la peslc. The ./imericcn says: “ ‘ It seems to differ from the old type of yellow fever in manner of attack, in treat- ment required, and in the celerity with which the work offdeatli is performed— many of its victims dying within it few hours of their attack. The prcmonitory symp- toms are simply a sharp acute pain like rlicnrnntic pain, or sometimes it paralytic shock in some part of the body. For in- stance, Mr. Barclay was attacked by what felt to him like 11 severe blow upon the right hip. (Ithers are attacked by it sharp pain across the knuckles of the hand. Unless attended to immediately, the pain extends up the arm, or leg, and gr-rirlunlly over the entire body. Internal fever ensues, while the skin and cittrcrnitics are icy cold. The first effort is to bring about it reaction by wrapping the patient in ice, followed by hot mustard applications; the object being to produce perspiration, which, if success ful, is generally followed by it cure. Very little, if any internal medicine is needed or. allowed, except perhaps a slight tonic.”- A sergeant-major ofthc 95th writes from the Camp before Sebastnpol——“ W'e are so very close to the Russians that the men amuse ihcinsclvcs with the following dia- logues to them. viz, ‘Johnny Rush, no bo- na;‘black bread; Malakoff no bona, &c.; to which the Russians reply, ‘ Englc no bo- nti;’ but between these jokes in 03s a shower of Minie balls to butter their black bread. ” Charlottetown Markets, Sept. 12.
