No servant who has the slightest atom of sclf respect is going to stand being lectured be- fore a tableful of people. And she mistress who will do that isn’t a lady oo matter what she claims to be. A mistress should remember that servants are, after all, hu- man and are dominated by much the same spirit as their employers, though ina dif- erent degree, perheps. Whatever injures their ideas of self respect hurts their self esteem, and trouble is bound to come. Lec- ture your servants, if vou will, but do it behind closed doors. The publie is not in- terested in your domestic troubles. —Ex- mange. Not an Easy Task. A nursery governess in an English fam- ily of affluence must bea young lady of considerable educational attainments. She must havea good knowledge of English and French, be able to teach the elemen- tary rules of arithmetic, write a good hand, be quick at needlework, and in ad- dition be kind and conciliating in disposi- tion and make up her mind to enduvre all the annoyances, drudgery and fagging which the charge of young children im- pose. When Uric Acid Flows in the Veins, Life Looks Out cf Darkened Windows, Expecting Soon the Close of Day. The fashionable Italian poison of the XVI. century was Aqua Torfana. It was used by the medicis and all the first fami- lies of Rome, Genoa and Naples. Ia five years, historians tell us, over 600 wives used it to make widows of themselves. In these modern days a more terrible and more prevalent poison is decimating the human family, and men have asked in vain for an antidote. It is the uremic poisoning of the bleod, caused by diseased kidneys. The poison which these useful organs should filter from the blood is allowed to remain in the circulation, and ¢ urses through the body like “accursed Hebenon....whose effect Holds such an enemy with blood ot man, That with a sudden vigor it doth posset and curd Like eager droppings into milk, The thin and wholesome blood.” To-day there is aremedvy. I was relieved by passing the same, after using one box of Dodd’s Kid- ney Pills, and completely cured by a tew boxes.” Mr. Wm. McEvela, 275 Field St., Ottawa, says :—“Two boxes of Dodd’s Kidn-y Pilts have worked a wonderful cure in my care. Had been laid up with kidney trouble for months.” G. B. Cones, Orillia, Ont., says :-—*I most cheerfully testify that five boxes of Dodd’s Kidney Pills have cured me of Diabetes fron) which I suffered two years.’ _————-_oan-o_ Bronze. It is found thatthe addition of a very alight quantity of phosphorus to the other constituents of bronze produces great changes in the qualities, materially in- creasing the strength and ductility. A good alloy is produced by the combination of from .2 to .8 per cent of phosphorus with a mixture of copper and tin in the proportion of nine to one, but the amount of phosphorus varies in different qualities all the way from .03 to.8 per cent. In the process of manufacturing, phosphor tin, containing a definite known amount of the phosphorus, is added to copper—a process which gives a fairly good control over the composition of the resulting alloy even when the final percentage of phos- phorus is very minute. The tensile of cast phosphor brenze is from 17 to 22 tons per square inch.—New York Sun. His Love. Billings—Come, now, do you really be- lieve he married her for love? Holdman— To be sure.
